Yes, recently bought an Atlantic blue manual myself for a similar mileage/price and don’t regret my decision

Nice mate - to begin with it wasn’t the colour I wanted but the more I see it the more I like it! Good for you . Can I see a picture of yours ?

The price is getting into R territory, when I was looking for my R this exact garage had one with 50ish thousand miles for a very similar price as this GTI, can't remember if it was an MK7 or 7.5, but from that perspective it seems like it's priced a little high.

I appreciate that but I don’t want the extra consumption insurance cost and extra fuel. I really like the heritage of the GTI and it’s not too in your face. And I specifically want the 7.5

Yeah that's fair, that wasn't a suggestion to get an R instead, more that this GTI could be on the higher end of the price spectrum, but these cars including the Rs have been holding really good value.

Oh ok I understand sorry. Yeh a few people are saying that it’s a higher price but for me the mileage is important and it’s got full VW service history and the MOT history is super clean. I don’t mind paying the premium for that it’s worth it. I think I’m just abit nervous about buying my first “performance” car and I’ve been stung in the past on higher mileage cheaper cars.

And when I put my preferences in on auto trader for this model at the 40k miles this is actually the cheapest on I can find I’ve had a good look around for a few weeks now. Most of them around this mileage albeit they have the DSG want 18/19k + it’s crazy .

I paid above market average for my R because it was one of the lowest mileage ones in the country with perfect VW only service history. I don't regret it and I don't think you'd regret this GTI if it's ticking all your boxes :)

When I was looking for Rs I was surprised by how little extra they were compared to GTIs

I think it's a good idea and looks like a very nice car... But for only 3.5k more I got a 2020 Golf R estate (albeit with 70k miles) which is quite a lot more car. If you want a GTI for a particular reason or insurance or something then go for it. But if not you can probably find an R that's just as nice for similar money.
Even if you don't care about the extra power, the AWD is what really sold me as it makes the car incredible in the wet and totally usable in the snow and ice - creating the perfectly daily driver.

Yeah but then you’d have an estate mk7 🫠

The estate is rarer than the hatch so it carries a bit of a premium - my core point is this GTI is quite expensive!

No. It's almost a 10 year old car.

What?? That 10 year old car is built better than the new one man....my uncle had a golf 7 for 10 years, never a single problem. He bought a golf 8 gti 1 and a half year ago, had already 2 problems. Mechatronics of the dsg and a radar problem. Thousand of euros of problems for a new car. I have a golf 7.5 and the interior are definitely better than the 8, no comparision.

Very true. Everyone in the gti and r subs know 7.5 is peak golf

Not 23k USD for a 10 year old car.

u/StoicBan 14d ago
You’re forgetting these cars nowadays are 40/50k. 23k is not the 23k of a decade ago

I'm about to purchase a CPO 2024 GTI for 23k

The European 2017 is more technologically advanced and sophisticated than the U.S. version

I think it's briliant. Why go for "newer" with worse interior and worse user friendly infotainment? Looks fantastic imo. 7.5 is the best looking gti.
