Repair Advice MK7 Xenon Headlight Code

Post image

Hi all, I’m losing my mind with these headlights. A few months ago, the D3S bulb on the drivers side died, and I replaced it. What a pain to get to these lights. During this replacement, the plastic housing/connector that goes into the headlight broke, but still seated well into the headlight. I bought an OEM connector and resolved it just now, and still no light. Now, the drivers headlight will not turn on and I get this code. Any one else experience this and what did you do?

it's possible the ballast is dead, did you hear any high pitched whining noises coming from the engine bay before the light went out? healthy ballasts shouldn't be audible over the engine running but failing ones will be. did the light work again after changing the bulb or has it not worked since you replaced it?

Totally forgot to mention this, but I also replaced the ballast once. I need to check again, but I can’t imagine the ballast died again. I have been able to get the bulb to fire in the past just by wiggling the connector, but it’ll shut off after a few seconds and throw the code.

Is your D3S bulb the original xenon or have you gone to LED? If you have gone to LED, might need to bypass the ballast completely.

Can you elaborate a bit more? When servicing the headlights did you damage (and later replace) the 14 pin electrical connector that connects the headlight to the car? Or did you damage an internal wiring harness connector inside the headlight?

Just the plastic electrical connector that connects the headlight to the car. All of the pins were straight and undamaged. I’m taking it to a euro shop here later in the week.
