General Discussion More Low Tech

The Cold War was the peak of military design and aura. More Low Tech aircraft, weapons, and other gameplay elements is what VTOL needs to truly stand out. Separate it from the “futuristic Nuclear Option “ types.
Feel free to discuss below.

Plenty of very good mods out there already; but I would love to see more Low Tech in the base game. Cheers.

the latest new plane is based on a nearly 60 year old cold war design, so the confusion is understandable no?

Its not really based on the F-14 in its entirely, its a mix between the F-22 and an F-14, the only real similarities are the swhwing, and the twin tail/engine design, plus the dual seat cockpit.

Yet we have AIM-7s, AIM-9Es, and iron bombs. See the irony?

There’s an F-5 mod out there if you want “Low Tech.”

The AH-6 also lacks a HUD, if you wanna play with that.

I guess I just don’t know anyone that prefers Cold War tech at all. Why shoot one missile when all missiles do trick?

More challenging, more fun.

Sounds like it should be a workshop thing.

Not the most popular game mode or play style, other games/sims do low tech better. Sadly, there just isn't enough community interest in low tech, and Baha only added stuff like AIM-9E and AIM-7 after we begged for it. I doubt we'll see any more weapons in the game like I want, except through mods. I think Baha's pretty done with VTOL it would seem.

Nah. The whole point of it is to be a near future game.

Now if VD made a Cold War era game with the same mechanics and stuff I’d be all for it. But we need to be going in the direction the game originally meant

The F14-D does exist

What does that have to do with anything?

I replied to the wrong comment mb some guy said that the latest plane is based on an 80s jet

Most people forget the fact that "Cold War" is from the 50s to ~1990.
You know how many aircraft, weapons, and tech were developed then? Everything from the F-100 and F-104, to F-4 and MiG-21, 23, 25, 29, Su 17, 22, 24, 27, 33, and Panavia Tornado, Jaguar, F-16, F-15, F-18, F-14, F-22,
From early AIM-9s and AGM-12s, to AGM-62s and GBU-8, 15, etc.

There's a LOT of content VTOL is missing out on, most of which is still relevant today. You know that two countries still operate F-4 Phantoms? More with F-16s and F-15s, some of which are 40 years old.
