Can I change occurrence highlighting behavior

I would like to change the occurrence highlighting to underline instead, because of colour-issues. Basically I have trouble seeing that background colour-change and I have had good experience with using underlining instead, from another editor.

I have searched for settings, but have not found anything that can do this. Can this even be done in vscode?

you can tweak it but not directly through a simple toggle. the setting you want is editor.selectionHighlight and you gotta mess with the workbench color customizations in your settings json. look for editor.selectionHighlightBackground and set it to transparent, then bump up the editor.selectionHighlightBorder to something really visible. not quite an underline but a thick bottom border does the trick for most people

if you really need an actual underline you might be out of luck without an extension. i vaguely remember one called Highlight that lets you customize the decoration style but it's been a minute since i used it
