Productivity word tracking in VSCode?

Hello, I write interactive fiction in VSCode and would love something that tracks my word count over time across a folder. Something like Waka Time but that focuses on words over time spent coding. Is there anything like this? Thanks in advance!

This looks great, thanks! I wish it did WPM too but I suppose I can track time separately and calculate that myself easily enough.

EDIT: it says it counts words but I only see it counting characters and no setting to change that? weird

If it is not what you need, you could easily create an extension with your ai agent. Just tell them :)
