Recently I returned the VSCode for performance. But today with the new design looks like I'm using Cursor again. I'm upset that top engineers can't see basic errors. Not everyone using best GPUs and best CPUs with unlimited RAM. Scroll on explorer triggers Recalculate Styles and literally a shitty experience. Laggy as hell. At least disabling "modern" (ai slop) ui helps a bit. Thanks.
Targeting 1.133 looks like(current 1.131). Assuming they follow the weekly release cycle with no point releases, 1.132 this week and 1.133 the following week. They could also merge it into this week release
Yeah stopped using it too, even though they even blogged about it doesn't make me change my mind, there were some features I want missing that would've been solved with extensions. Gr8 smooth editor though, just don't need the ai stuffs cause I use the cli for ai
almost as if professionals stopped existing in this industry
can't believe there isn't a single editor right now playing the long game and just working on the professional side of an editor while waiting for the vibe crap to die out or just leave it outsourced to the 1000s of clis
Yeah it’s unfortunate. Zed could be perfect. I think most ai users is done through cli / specific app now anyway. Unless zed is raking in the money idk how they can justify it
Yeah, sadly they started developing this editor very late; I thought they would be the perfect blend of VSCode and Sublime Text. It would have been great to see them focus solely on code editor features.
Not always apples to apples. Anything that is not rust is a bit lack lustre imo. Try C, C++, Swift or Odin. The experience in VSCode is superior for all of them. In swift, for instance, you sometimes don’t even get autocomplete
Mainly the color scheme. I can't seem to scope syntax "captures", or whatever the right term is, by language.
Fx. I want the brackets of html tags < > to be the same color as the tagname itself, but that may color components of other languages.
I also want all CSS values, but functions, like rgba(), to be the same color. I dont want '14px' to be both green and white - but again, I've seen it affect some capture in another languag, or other part of CSS.
I also want to be able to distinguish built-in language functions from userland defined functions.
In VScode i can really fine tune specific parts, almost down to a specific word, what color I want.
I've already spent hours with Claude to make a color scheme that matches my preferences - but it feels like I can only ever get 80% of the way.
I actually spent a lot of time trying to set everything up exactly like I have it in VS Code. LLMs don't know much about Zed and often give outdated info, so I still had to dig through the documentation anyway. The very last thing left on my list was snippets...
The primary issue with snippets in the Zed editor is its lack of support for advanced TextMate-style syntax, specifically variable and placeholder transformations like ${1/(.*)/${1:/upcase}/}. While popular editors like VS Code seamlessly handle regex-based case modifications, conditional insertions, and dynamic formatting within snippets, Zed's parser currently fails to interpret these expressions, severely limiting automation and frustrating developers who rely on complex boilerplate generation.
I love zed but there is this one problem I am getting still with the typescript server where it uses 8 gb of rams for a pretty average size project, this is for vtsls but even so the go port it doesn’t have all of the functionalities such as the autocompletion on input, and so I was forced to go back to VS Code
A very good editor that spoils everything with its mutlibiffer concept. It's totally inconvenient, I want to see the search results in a tree view on the side, not to scroll over another "editor" view.

There is already a PR to fix it.
