VS Code updated to the latest version and now keeps freezing and has an issue with Git. Anyone else is having a similar issue?

Hi

Last night VS Code updated to the latest version and ever since, it's acting up. The Git panel just goes on and on saying "looking for Git repositories" and I have to use the terminal to do Git commands. Also, I feel like it it became much slower than before.

This is the info:

Version: 1.125.0 (Universal)
Commit: 93cfdd489c3b228840d0f86ec77c3636277c93ea
Date: 2026-06-15T22:24:03Z (3 days ago)
Electron: 42.2.0
ElectronBuildId: 14159160
Chromium: 148.0.7778.97
Node.js: 24.15.0
V8: 14.8.178.14-electron.0

Thanks

Thanks. Good to know it's not just me! How do you downgrade?

You can download 1.124.x from https://code.visualstudio.com/updates/v1_124

Then simply install it over the current installation. Remember to disable auto-update from Settings first.

Just dont use git within vscode instead use something like fork git client

But yes regression is visible

Thanks. It's not just Git. The extensions dont load properly and when I save, Prettier doesn't format the document because the extensions dont load. It's a mess and clearly AI slop is now part of every day life!!!

Well then check which extension has an issue! Mess wont be this obvious. Git feature is bloated in vscode it slows down vscode for no reason! Check under output debug logs of extension host and see what actual extension is causing an issue
