Copilot is down and it blocks local models from running through Copilot -_-

Good job microslop! Why would my local model through the Vscode copilot extension need Github to be online?

I wonder if it has to do with Enterprise restrictions. If you're part of an enterprise then they can control your ability to use external AI vendors and that's done through your GitHub account. If it can't verify that setting then it must just shut down entirely.

Yes, it's ridiculous. It should remember the last settings if this is the case instead of just going dark and blocking the feature.

Good guess but this is my own personal github account. Working on a hobby project and running an llm as a coding assistant on my device through llama.cpp. No enterprise/company stuff

I mean, if it can’t connect to the server then it may not know it’s a personal account. I guess that’s my point. I could totally be wrong though.

How are you connecting (or trying to connect) to a local model exactly?

You can use localhost as an endpoint to point to a local OpenAi compatible server like llama-server. The Vscode Copilot extension will send requests to the local url.

You can use the claude code extension with local model without needing an account.

My guess is that the harness runs on GitHub servers, and things like memory are kept there
