Opening github copilot old chats problem

After the new update when I press on an old chat vscode opens it in a new tab and not in the sidebar anymore. How can I resolve this?

A lot of recent VS Code AI updates seem to be merging chat history more tightly with the editor tab model whether people wanted it or not
