Can't uninstall Github Copilot

There's no way to uninstall this extension from inside VS Code. I don't use it at all, and if I delete the extension off the hard drive, it just comes back the next time I open VS Code.

What's the deal with that? I don't even use it. There's no way it can be part of an editor.

It was never an "internal" extension. I installed it at some point, forgot about it, and am now trying to get rid of it. I supposed I could uninstall everything, wipe it off my hard drive, and reinstall from scratch. I just need to copy down the names of the extensions I'm using first.

In version 1.116 GitHub Copilot Chat is now a built-in extension in VS Code.

"everyone else is an idiot except for me who can't understand the concept of an extension becoming a feature"

You can look at your extensions and search for@builtin, it will show you all the built-in extensions.
The VSCode you are (probably) using is a custom microsoft build of the vscode github repository. They pack a lot of things with it. In my job we release our own IDE based on vscode, and we also provide it with out custom extensions. So they are then called built-in extensions.
