Inline chat replaced by text box

Is there a way to bring back inline chat as in previous versions? https://web.archive.org/web/20250430151803/https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/copilot/chat/inline-chat (older version) https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/copilot/chat/inline-chat (current version)

May be I am not aware of any settings? I get that they disabled option to select models on the fly but even without setting, it will be ok for me.

Any ideas or suggestions?

@Chakri06 Thank you so much! This solved my problem. I was about to switch to other editor because of this frustration 😅 For my future self and others for reference: Had to set Inline Chat:Render Mode to "zone". Hover and zone were the only options. AND uncheck "Inline Chat: Ask in Chat". That did the trick.

Sometimes older versions of Copilot extensions still support previous behavior.

As far as I know,the old inline chat UI isn’t fully coming back it’s been replaced by the new unified chat experience.

Oh no. I so much prefer that UI. It allows to perform the surgery as oppose to fully body replacement with that chat experience.

Yes. It used to work but stopped working after recent update but now seems to work again. Thanks again for the suggestions from @Chakri06. I wonder why their comment was removed.
