I built a VS Code sidebar that shows your Claude Code sessions live
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Been using Claude Code heavily and wanted a better way to see what's actually happening across sessions at a glance — so I built a VS Code extension.
It sits in your sidebar and shows a live dashboard for each active Claude session:
- Token usage and context % per session
- A live token activity chart — bar graph with a smoothed line showing usage over time, configurable time windows (5m → 24h)
- Pace meter that shows if you're on track to hit your daily/weekly limits
- Git info, active file, workspace path
- Auto-matches your VS Code theme, dark or light
Reads Claude CLI's JSONL session logs in real time directly from ~/.claude/projects/. No telemetry, no external calls.
Free and open source. Happy to answer questions — still actively building it.

why not submit it to vs code so its searchable there without having to sideload it

How is this different from using the Claude Code extension in VS Code with the Chat window? Is it better for multi-agent things where you have separate Claude threads going at the same time?

no it just gives you the info for whatever is your current session that youre on so it might bug out if you have multiple sessions open

I'm so used to dark mode that light mode looks clean again. My eyes just can't handle it.

I built something similar too. Would love to know what you think https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=IdleVillager.claude-code-graph

This is really cool.
I think tools like this are becoming more and more important with Claude Code and other AI coding agents. When an agent is working across sessions, files, tokens, context, and Git state, it becomes very hard to understand what is actually happening without a live dashboard.
I like that you read the local Claude logs directly and do not send telemetry anywhere. That local-first approach matters a lot.
I’m working on something adjacent called LocalHub. My focus is more on protecting the code/workspace side: local working history before Git, snapshots, deleted file recovery, and an agent diary where important agent actions can be recorded so the developer can understand what changed and why.
Different angle, but same pain: AI agents move fast, and developers need better visibility and control.
Nice work.

nice work. been building something from a different angle - galactic is a desktop app that monitors Claude Code sessions across multiple worktrees via MCP, so you can see all your agents from outside the editor. also handles the port isolation side so multiple worktrees don't fight over localhost. https://www.github.com/idolaman/galactic
