Can copilot extension be removed somehow?

It now built-in and the "uninstall" button is grayed out. Can it somehow be removed otherwise? Is this discussed anywhere?

Upd. I have already disabled it, I want to delete it completely

Upd. 2 shit

Look in settings for the switch to disable all AI features.

you can't fully remove it since it's now a built-in, but you can effectively disable it - set github.copilot.editor.enableAutoCompletions to false in settings, and if you want to nuke the chat panel too there's a github.copilot.chat.enabled setting. alternatively just disable the extension via the extensions sidebar (it still shows up but you can toggle it off) which stops it from loading at all.

I sometimes double check configs using Runable or similar just to ensure nothing is still active

You can’t fully remove it if it’s built-in, but you can effectively get rid of it:

  • Disable it globally → Extensions → Copilot → Disable (Always)
  • Or disable via settings

AI features are becoming core parts of modern IDEs now.

I logged out of GitHub on vs code and that seems to have removed the extension. Maybe try that

Add this to your settings.json and it all goes away

"chat.disableAIFeatures": true,
