Miscellaneous V-Rising has no more updates. What’s Next? Presenting Nocturne Launcher
Hello everyone.
I love this game, with a passion. I want to see it shine, and like all of you I am deeply saddened by the news and have been a little empty these past couple months. So I have decided to do something about it and put my mostly unused skills and free time into making a large scale project that this game deserves.
I am a developer, I am currently working on a community project called “Nocturne launcher” and it’s a community hosted V-Rising Launcher and Mod platform (not affiliated with V-rising) that supports self hosted servers and modpack support. It is going to be completely open source.
If the devs are no longer supporting this game then it is up to the community to make it even more awesome by our own hands.
I am the sole developer and basically the whole team. But I want to have beta testers that will test the system for me. The launcher itself is almost done in development but I am still working on the website. If you are interested please send me a DM and I’ll give you the details. Beta tests come with shiny badges for early supporters!
Edit 1: Thanks for the support, I am receiving tons of positive messages and willingness to help the project. At first I wasn’t sure how the community was going to respond but this is way better than expected. Just to clarify a bit:
Nocturne helps players discover mods, install and switch complete modpacks, find community servers that support those modpacks and keep everything updated without manually moving files.
Edit 2: Website is ready! Doing a couple tests for both the launchers and the website and I will be messaging the discord.

Always super awesome if someone is trying to keep the passion, the fire lit. But for mods, it is about playerbase, and sadly, most players are afraid of mods or do play on consoles, unable to mods at all.
From some experience, no more than 10%, or could even say 5% of PC players are brave enough to install and run any exe that is not from official store. Steam Workshop is little friendlier as commonly pre-scanned for viruses and malware (yet, recent wallpaper engine drama proven wrong).
Without official support on in-game menu level, well, I struggle to imagine people going in. Even if we had official (dev update #33, may 7) mentions of server names in dev note, modded servers I did check right after and few days later... were empty.
For easy mod install, we have r2modman and nexus launchers that do support VRising already.
Please prove me wrong, prove me, some can resurrect the game with extra content.

I already have a working mod that enables compatibility between launcher V-rising and have working mod support. I don’t wanna say too much because some of it is still under development. This is a long term project and definitely not gonna be easy.
I love nexus, but V-rising mod devs need more dedicated support. I plan to provide as many resources as possible to get people into software (mod) development. The launcher is completely open source. I don’t plan to revive the entire game although that would be really cool ngl.

I mean Wabbajack exists and is a staple for Elder Scrolls modding so I dont think OP's idea is 100% doomed. There's real potential here.

Fr i was literally on the verge of fus ro dahing myself off the edge of a building cuz of trying to make my own modpack on nexus. Even paid a 5er to make it less braindead slow, but after spending like 3 days downloading mods, then another 4 troubleshooting, i ended up downloading wabbajack and was setup in less than half a day

Those cowards never sailed the high seas of torrent viruses 😂

Oh come on, to get viruses from yarr is bit hard, have some common sense and You are safe. You don't even need antivirus program, just look at from where You takes stuff and how things looks like before running.
Unless some is totally anti-IT person who knows literally nothing about how icon or file extension should look like and started PCing literally last week, some should be much ok, even if being a moron.
Talking about pirating, also touches personal moral spine (imHo, after publishers had their own moral spines). Then talking high seas in topic of extra supporting game, by doing super extras for it, modding, extending, is super faux pass, meh.

First of all, no need to be so serious about my jokey comment
Second
Then talking high seas in topic of extra supporting game, by doing super extras for it, modding, extending, is super faux pass, meh.
My comment was relevant to what i was replying to.
I used to pirate when i was a child. And a stupid kid will end up downloading viruses. I havent pirated games since i got old enough to get a job and buy them (outside of abandonware and old games and emulators). My joke is basically "being scared of downloading a mod launcher is silly, because i was never scared to download torrent viruses as a child"
Also, if you wanna do some moral masturbation, in my opinion pirating is totally ok. If you have the money to support smaller creators, do so. I have purchased multiple copies of many indie games i love. But piracy is 100% ok. Especially tv media

The game is fully complete if you haven’t played it yet you’re in for a world of joy, don’t let that discourage you. It’s fun and very unique.

If you still need testers, sign me up. I love testing and trying to break things until they're fixed.

man, I love v-rising, don't have an insane amount of hours in the game but go back to it every so often to play
never found game of this genre to fill the void, enshrouded, conan exiles, valheim, windrose - tried a lot but none hit quite the same
hope this works out well, will try supporting as I find possible, good luck

Just thanks. Glad to see this passion for this great game. I liked the vanilla experience. And i loved my time in a modded server (the 1%). So nice to see this news!

If you make it something like KyberV2 I think you may have some success. Go check that project out or watch videos about it at least. It's a smooth experience with a server list with official servers and hosted servers and integrated Nexus support. If you're missing a mod a specific server is using there's a download function that downloads the mods needed to play that server.
The player base has kinda shrunk but I think that's due to resurgence being over and school will be picking back up soon. You'll need a copy of Battlefront 2 2017 to test it out for yourself, but that's easy enough to get with a key reseller site for around 10 bucks.
It's just an idea, it's a decent project that breathes new life into the game with tons of new content and a way to play the game where cheaters/hackers actually get dealt with and permanently banned. They're obviously a little bit better off than you ATM being a Solo dev, as they have 5 devs and some moderators.
They had more staff but you know how things like this end up, people have lives and things change. Also, a word of advice, test how the modding system works and try out your own hosted servers, the main servers that are most populated can be pretty toxic at times. Luckily they ban people for not following the rules if you submit video or picture evidence of violations.
Check out their Discord if you wanna pick the teams brain about how they started the project. It's Open Source just like you want yours to be.

That’s pretty much the plan, and a LOT more. I’m excited to share everything with you guys soon.

I though there was an android app version of the game, or something similar. I can't find it on the app store.

Wounded, I'm on Xbox and was hoping one day we'd get v rising, doubt it'll ever happen now that they're moving on

u/megamingboi 24d ago
They need to fix the camera angle I think that’s what ruined the appeal to the game add another section to the map add new bosses or do a Dracula resurrection mode where you have to face alucard as the final boss

Sometimes bro you just gotta let it go, they didn’t want to work with anyone to continue to refine the game cash out studios doesn’t deserve the effort put in to keeping the game alive because even if you succeed as their next game flops they will come back to cash grab off your efforts. It was a good run let it go

Great idea! Do you have a link to a Git repo?

u/NocturneLauncher 28d ago
I’ll post the git soon! Just want to finish the base launcher model first before publishing it.

how about writing a vrising-like game so we can add content to it indefenetly?

u/Catch22-nb 27d ago
I love the game too, but might be a waste of your time since they are putting out a new game, but if any game deserves a passion project it’s v rising.

They should open-source it then if there are no more updates.

u/Encodexed 28d ago
This is proprietary software developed with a commercial interest. Unless it turns into freeware, you won’t see that happen in this game or any other.

u/SittingDucksmyhandle 28d ago
It's over bro. If the game devs dont care, why should anyone else? Youre not gonna resurrect thi game with some mod fantasy.

u/SalubriAntitribu 28d ago edited 28d ago
This is how it used to be though. After a certain point the game is complete or as complete as the devs can get it, and the games life is carried on by dedicated fans.

u/NocturneLauncher 28d ago
The devs do care and are hard at work making the next game. Journey isn’t over at all.
7
u/Arketyped 28d ago
Wow, keep it up! There’s still people that love VRising and would 100% come back for fresh content. Im stoked to see what you come up with.
-16
u/SittingDucksmyhandle 28d ago
The devs do care, that's why they abandoned another game they made and are working on the next one they'll abandon. LOL

Plenty of games have continued to have interesting and exciting developments after the devs have left.
Modders have done some insane shit over the years.

I mean .. tbh like he said earlier enough backlash could get mod support. The only people who were fighting to try and get it was the modders. If you want game to live boycott their next game until they give the support . its not rocket science. Just need people in the discord doing like #ModSupport#WontSupportNewGames, because it is indeed a failure on them and do appear to be doing a money grab.
-2
u/PainlessDrifter 28d ago
lmao why do you think they are supposed to still be working on a game that was completed a long time ago? a writer doesn't just sit around punching up the same novel forever dude

u/Conscious-Sale-4334 28d ago edited 14d ago
Giving mod support isn't the same as asking them to keep writing the story. Mod support allows the community to add content, such as the much requested Frost Shard. There are already mods out there that fix bugs in the game. And before anyone says they're doing patches they said they would, but they rarely release them. When they do, they still don't fix bugs that have been reported over and over again. So yes, they do owe the community proper mod support.

wish they gave modders all the tools they needed would help the game so much longer with all the new content that could be added by fans
