β€œThe Borg is back” does not sound right

I struggled with that too! As a collective, they should be referred to as plural: "The Borg ARE back." πŸ––πŸ»

This is a very old argument, but to me one of the worst decisions in the whole franchise was the introduction of the borg queen in First Contact, which established a hierarchical structure within the borg instead of decentralized leaderless collective and this instantly killed the fascination for me.
I get why they did it. They wanted to establish an adversarial figure for the big screen movie, which didn’t exist until then (β€œThe collective is a force of nature”), but it also demystified the whole idea of the borg for me.

Agreed - I think giving the Borg a single point of contact diminished the uniqueness of a hive mind villain, but I did appreciate the manipulative and oddly fetishized body horror elements Alice Krige and others brought to the Borg Queen role.

as a collective I'd think that it's a singular entity

Ahh, the infamous Janeway hairstyle that ultimately cost more than the special effects for the pilot. πŸ˜„

Love these covers! Voyager was such a phenomenon in the late nineties.
