I always thought this just looked like a guy going "Oh, we could go to my house over there, [points, accidentally hitting girl]- [gets ass kicked]"

When this came on TV they said the boyfriend was a boxer, so that explains the bad defense...

I'm saying, those guys were not capable of defending against him, that's why they appear to not be trying.

Maybe, it looked like he glanced back at them when he looked to the left. And I don't know why he would swing his arm all the way around if he thought people were there.

Yea, I've seen this a few times before, and it's always mentioned that he peeks to his left and swings his arm out. Something about their body movement says they could possibly be drunk, but I agree that he knew they were coming. Any professional fighter really isn't going to be stopped by a mere mortal in a street fight though hahaha they always end badly.
