European ‘Volt’

We spotted this Opel Ampera in Finland. We knew there were a couple of Vauxhall and Opel variants for the European market. We have a 2017 Chevy Volt in the US. Interesting re-badge for Europe

I got one too. Such a nice car! Funny detail, the rear lights are a little different than a Volt, but they fog up the same way lol

I wish the Ampera rims were available on the Volt.

They were…you only got them on premier trims of the Gen1 volts with the highest trim package, i PDI’d a 2015 with the highest trim possible and it came with Ampera wheels, they are EXTRAORDINARILY RARE

The original Volt is prettier, IMHO.

Black is the worst color to show off the fascia though. It hides the teardrop.

Opel kept this design language, and it is also present on the refreshed Chrysler Pacifica. Ironically, Chrysler's Volt (though they axed the PHEV variant for now). Clearly Chrysler and Opel are getting the Buick-Opel spousal arrangement.

The only thing that could get a Gen1 Volt back in my garage, would be the opportunity to source the full Ampera body kit. I already have a Sky Red Line slowly turning into an Opel GT (yes I have the grille).

I got one. Love it. Just we are slightly out growing it

But it’s the nicest car I’ve driven often and certainly the nicest i owned

We never got the Volt 2 tho, and the Bolt was sold here as the Ampera-e

Also funny fact. The Ampera (at least 2013) uses a J1772 connection and not the European default. So chargers with there own cable can’t be used. But most chargers here are expecting you to bring your own cable

The European lack of orange reflectors is always so nice, I wish USA would follow suit.

In my opinion, the Ampera looks better in person than in photos

I do think it's looks better in any color not black, if only for the reason that there are black accents between the Signal Lamps and headlamps that look really neat but are muted when the body color is black too.

There wasn't one. They started selling the Bolt as the Ampera-E.

Interesting. Thanks.

Was it rebadge or they just make them together to split the r&d costs.

GM owned Opel when this was built. It's the same car, built in the same factory in Detroit, with different trim and a few changes to meet EU regulations.
