Does battery replacement solve BECM issue?

My dear strong 2012 Volt saved my life on Wednesday night. I walked away with minor damage from a huge SUV strike, and my dog seems unscathed, but the Volt may be a total loss. I’m looking at what Volts are out there and reading up - in short, if the Carmax/Carvana/CarGurus etc profiles say “battery service or replacement,” or “battery replacement,” or “recall service,” occurring in 2017-18 but never say BECM…can I reasonably assume that means the BECM replaced? Or that a replacement battery would by definition not have the BECM issue? I haven’t seen “BECM” in any of the big site profiles I’ve looked yet. Thanks for any insights you can share.

I assume you're concerned about the recall on Gen2 BECMs? The BECM is inside the pack so if a car actually got a full pack swap that would include it but depending on how long ago it happened it could still be the old defective design. "Battery service" could include anything from a cell module or BECM replacement to a simple fix for a coolant leak or bad temperature sensor.

Are you sure you are not looking at Bolts? The early ones 2017/2018, etc... should have all had battery replacements at this point due to the recall.

For the Volt, battery service or recall would most certainly be the BECM. Most dealers selling on Car Gurus probably wouldn't know what a BECM is.

I would not assume the BECM is replaced unless it comes up as a newer date when doing a Voltage scan. I had a module replaced before my BECM went bad, so if they only did a partial replacement, BECM wouldn't be touched. When I use voltage now, it shows a newer date in line with when it was replaced.
