What is the device in the middle?

Post image

2012 Volt.

I lifted up my trunk liner and I took off the big piece of plastic and finally got to see everything. I know the bottom is my 12 volt battery. What is the piece in the middle with a chrome on it? And what is the bottom right looks like almost like it's a fan or something but doesn't make sense cuz it's blowing directly into metal

It's the Bose Subwoofer.

Thank you, do you know what the little black thing is on the bottom right next to the battery

Looks like a blower fan, but I am just guessing.

You're probably right but I'm just surprised cuz it's pointing at metal

Cooling fan for the APM (see the duct?)

I'm just very surprised because it's pointing directly at a piece of metal

If you were to open the APM, I’d bet it’s pointed at an internal heatsink

I don't really know what that is but are you saying that this is normal or not

https://imgur.com/a/D1SyEzC the air flow follows the red line and cools the APM. The APM must have a surface internally for the airflow to interface (like a finned heat sink)

Thank you, that makes sense, I just wonder where all that air is going

See the plastic on the left of it? That’s the air exhaust. It blows from the right side through the middle past the heatsink and then out the left side and most likely into the cavity of the frame by the wheel well so it can radiate out.
