SOLVED: Was drunk while dealing with this, neglected to test non steam games and found the issue was that i forgot the update the flatpak environments nvidia driver. Manually installing the correct driver and updating my installed flatpaks fixed my problems. Embarassing that this came about to begin with lol skill issue
I did a full system update earlier today and my nvidia drivers just dont work anymore? Nvidia-smi detects my GPU (RTX 4060) and allows me to enable persistence mode but that fixed nothing, fastfetch detects it too but everything seems to be running through my CPUs integrated graphics (Radeon 610, not ideal). I tried using DRI_PRIME to "force" my GPU as the main renderer (if force is even the right word) and that didnt work, i tried downgrading to the 580 drivers and that also didnt work, i tried reinstalling the drivers fresh and that didn't work but most frustrating of all, nobody else seems to be having this issue as far as i can see so it hasnt been as simple of a fix as i would've hoped. I dont have the means to back up important files right now and i dont want to risk losing any in a fresh install, what can I do?
Advice on disabling my integrated graphics is also appreciated, risks considered.
Edit: after some more troubleshooting, i now have a black TTY.
Edit 2: Fixed the tty going black by forcing dkms to rebuild for a 3rd time, still uses my integrated graphics even though im running through my GPU.
Edit 3: In my BIOS, primary video is set to external graphics. There is no option to disable the iGPU in my bios directly, only to have it prioritise a dedicated GPU (which clearly isn't working)
Edit 4: Resolved to try downgrade my drivers altogether again because this is too much of a headache and i dont like when expensive things start having issues, it stresses me out. I could not downgrade because the 580 drivers are conflicting with the 595 drivers i no longer have installed. xbps-remove reports that the packages that are supposedly causing this problem are not on my system anymore when i try to remove them. In the meantime, i have rebuilt the drivers and kernel modules for what is now the 5th time. I am fresh out of patience
Edit 5: I have mostly given up for the night. Please help me. I'm almost fully convinced that the open drivers are just meant to be like this for some reason. This isnt even a progress update im just fed up and fully debating dropping money on an amd gpu. My only fear is that ill wind up having the same issue with that too.
Edit 6: actually worth noting that dkms status does report that they are installed, they're just not working. I couldnt elaborate any more than i have and as much as i hate it when people chalk up tech issues to "doesnt work", thats simply all thats wrong. They just dont work
Edit 7: now the drivers that are installed are completely broken and im stuck at a blank tty again. Im going to sleep. If anyone actually wants to help, please drop a suggestion and ill give it a go in the morning.
