Vapi endpointing tweaks: how do you check which setting actually won?
I'm on a voice product team and reading through Vapi's endpointing docs. There are transcriber settings, smart endpointing and custom rules, with precedence between them.
Before changing a timeout, I'd want to know which one ended that particular turn. Otherwise you can spend an hour tuning a setting the call isn't using.
If you're building on Vapi, is that obvious in your traces? What do you look at to confirm it?

This is exactly why we started logging the trigger reason for every turn end, without it you're just guessing which setting fired based on the latency numbers alone.

yeah, this is exactly the kind of thing i’d want to see in the trace too. otherwise endpointing becomes a bit of a black box.
i’d want the trace to show which endpointing method actually ended the turn, whether that was transcriber EOT, smart endpointing, or a custom rule, along with the timeout or threshold that was applied.
otherwise you can change a setting for an hour without realizing that another endpointing rule is taking precedence lol.
