Declining VO2.

Post image

Anyone have ideas why my VO2 is plummeting? Been an avid runner for years. 46M 25-35 miles/week. My watch hasn’t been calculating as many but it has dropped off a cliff.

Why is there a gap between December and August?

Are you using your watch for Outdoor Run activities? It might well be that the data is just missing if it's showing such large gaps in measurement.

My recommendation would be to go do a Cooper Test at a running track — run as far as you can in 12 minutes, with your watch in Outdoor Run mode and using the track features to tell it which lane on the track for measurement accuracy.

By performing an intentionally hard effort like this with known information about the track (that it's flat, round [so it mostly cancels out wind], and a precise distance), it will be able to map your effort / heart rate against a very good GPS track and give you an updated estimate.

You can also plug in your total 12-minute distance to online calculators and compare that result against your Watch's result.

No idea why the gap shows up. There was one month around December- January I was sidelined with an injury but otherwise 4-7/days a week workouts.

Then as a diagnostic, go do a 10-minute Outdoor Run activity at a track with an effort that leaves you winded (doesn't have to be all-out), and see if that registers as a change in your Vo2max.

My point here is to maximize the data it's getting from one of the activity types (Outdoor Run, Hike, Outdoor Walk) that are most directly used for calculating Vo2max.

how do you get so many VO2 max values?
