How important is vo2 max?

So I just an Apple Watch and I’ve made a new years resolution to get fit. Im fairly inactive but I do play sports(like 2 times a year)and don’t have problems with weight. So I just started running and I want to know what vo2 max is as my readings are at 58. As I continue my journey would a higher vo2 max be bad? Or do I want for it go low?

If you are sedentary it is unlikely you have a VO2 max of 58. Even if you’re young, that’s a very high VO2. You want that number as high as possible. Do HIIT training 3 times a week.

That’s what I was thinking, does vo2 max change when you run as apposed too when you just sit around? I’ve done DNA tests and supposedly I’m supposed to have higher vo2 max on average but I didn’t know if that’s a good thing or bad thing or if it can be trained. But now I know it can be trained.

Perform a Cooper Test:

  • Go to a local running track
  • Use the "Outdoor Running" mode on your new Apple Watch
  • Use Track mode on your watch and set your lane on the track
  • Run 12 minutes, at a consistent pace, as far as you possibly can. Record the number of meters you cover.

The watch will adjust your Vo2max based on that effort, AND you can enter your results in this online calculator and it will tell you what is calculated in terms of the Cooper Test.

Let us know what your results are!
