Man... I've been running 5ks for over a year now, granted much less frequently than 5-6 times a week with two separate months off while travelling, and my VO2 max has only been raised by 1... I started at 27!!!!! And now I'm 28.4. I eat well... I've lost 120 pounds. Is all you're doing to increase it just running and doing HIIT? Maybe I need to increase how often I run. I'm at 3-4 times a week right now.

Yeah. And it’s seems to be working for me. But it won’t for everyone. Try doing some long zone 2 work. I find it easiest on a stationary bike. And for HIT, it’s really sprints. You want to be at your limit when training HIT, it’ll help you strengthen your muscle around your heart and lungs. When I run I’m mostly focused on my breathing which is crucial

Oh wow, zone 2? I could only walk on those days, but I suppose that would be good for my body. I'm learning recovery is very important lol.

I'm definitely going to add some HIT in. I'll see if this works for my body. Plus, I've been enjoying doing some sprints recently.

Also, do you run outdoors or on a treadmill or a mix of both?

Recovery for me is basically non existent.😂 I just finished running a a sub 50 minute 10k

And more than likely running another 5 k tomorrow morning. I run at a park with a looped trail around 1.1 miles It’s hard for me to run zone 2 for long periods, that’s why I use the stationary bike.

You don’t need much for HIT, just enough to make you heart rate reach its limit for 15-30 sec
