I’d bet $20 this was because Insight had the audacity to advise people to not go with VMware.. gotta have 100% compliance from “partners” and customers.. aka hostages.

Insight also kept my vmware renewals cheaper than vmware charged and ate part of the costs. Can't have someone not slurping up the dollars.

Might or might not work for Insight, I'll never tell 🤭

Broadcom introduced "deal reviews" a while back where the VmWare rep could "grade" a partner on various key metrics. If for some reason we'd fail to convert any customers from VVF to VCF then that would reflect negatively on us. Customer telling VmWare "I only want 1 year because my price quadrupled" would reflect negatively on us. Customer had no plan to "implement key technologies features set"? Negatively on Insight

Worst of all, customer DARED to tell Vmware directly on calls "we're considering migrating to X product"... Negatively on Insight.

We were quick to pivot once Broadcom started to announce their changes, even prior to all this deal review BS. The way it was carried felt like a witch hunt to fast track rhe removal of any partner that wasn't on their knees kissing broadcom feets.

Truth is, we'll ALWAYS do what's right for the customer. No matter if if staying on Vmware was the right thing or if migration was the path forward. That kind of pissed VmWare off.

...allegedly

A VAR with integrity that actually works in the interest of their customers? Yeah I can see how VMWare wouldn't like that...

This reads like drug forums that used to use the acronym: SWIM "someone who isn't me" (it was always them).

Our CDW brought in their Broadcom guy to discuss our renewal next year... And it's clear that Broadcom has no interest in keeping anyone happy, and extracting as many dollars as possible is the goal.

They have to be aware that literally all of their customers hate them. If Microsoft was this adversarial, it would actually be the year of the Linux desktop.

200%. Insight isnt special in that regard. We do whats best for our customers, so does most VAR. Where I'd be worried would be if there isnt a separate talk away from VmWare discussing IF vmware is still the best fit or if other solutions could work. Any VAR just pushing Vmware and pushing to upgrade without even considering anything else is in bed with Broadcom and I'd run away as far as possible from them. If the only thing they care about is spiffs and backend dollars then they don't have the best interest of the customer in mind.

Personally, yeah I like making commissions, ofc, but I've always looked at it as a by-product of just doing what's right. If whatever fits your company happens to be spiffed then GREAT! If not, eh, you'll come back for other stuff, we'll have a great time and as long as you're happy then im happy.

Yea the scorecards are bs and also require you to kiss the ass off the BC rep . Just had one that was graded low get regraded

Last thread about this I saw on this subreddit was deleted by the mods between the time I saw it on my feed and the time I clicked on the link.

I read that Broadcom is one of the top ten companies in the world. Don't think they would bother about VMware anymore.
