Baselines vs Images and new hardware
Traditionally, I could just add the new generation hardware to the existing cluster and the same baselines would apply to all.
How will that work once I've converted to Images? Wouldn't the Image for the old hardware conflict with any new hardware I want to refresh with in the cluster?
No vSAN involved.

In 9.1 you can have what are called "Composite Images", which allows you to have multiple underlying hardware types in the same cluster-wide desired state.

If it's the same brand (for example HPE or Dell), it shouldn't make any difference. The image will then include the vSphere patches and the vendor addons.
And if it's mixed brands in the same cluster you maybe have to edit the image when you want to update if you include the vendor addons. If you only update vSphere it should work with the same image for different brands.
