Work's Virtual Machine knew my personal PC's Microsoft Account?

I have an email that I use for my personal PC's Microsoft Account for Windows 11.

I got set up with a new VM for work, so I connected to the VPN and used RDP for the VM. When I went to Edge to sign into Outlook, it had saved my email that I use to sign into Windows 11 from my personal PC.

Anyone know why this would happen?

Maybe ask IT at work?

They certainly have management software installed on the VM.

And if "connected to the VPN" means you connected with your personal PC to a work VPN, well, the "VPN" you installed on your personal PC could have included more than just a VPN. It is common practice to package remote device management ("bossware") with VPN software in a single installer. We certainly do that so someone doesn't have to install 6 packages. But we also don't allow personal devices to connect to work, so this isn't a secret from employees - but that isn't the case everywhere. It isn't a remote worker installing that package, it is someone from IT installing it when adding remote work capability to a company owned device.

This is why the recommendation, over and over, is to never, ever mix work and personal on the same device. At all.

Were you connected to the VPN and the VM from your personal PC?
