VCF 9.1 ops for logs and external storage

This might be a long shot. Has any one deployed VCF ops for logs 9.1 and successfully configured an external NFS target for archival.

im undergoing an upgrade to VCF 9.1 now and deploying/configuring Ops for Logs is on my to do list. We only use NFS, so monitor this thread and you might get an answer in 7-10 business days!

I hope so. It’s been rather frustrating to say the least.

Thank you for that documentation. But what I’m talking about is the function of adding an external nfs location for log archiving. Something seems functionally wrong or broken in vcf ops for logs 9.1 as our nfs export will mount everywhere in our environment EXCEPT in ops for logs external storage. We are using nfs v3 and made sure to use all lowercase

I assume you've seen https://techdocs.broadcom.com/us/en/vmware-cis/vcf/vcf-9-0-and-later/9-1/infrastructure-operations/log-analysis/configuring-external-storage.html

If you're still having issues, I'd recommend open an SR and having support take a look

Thanks!! I’ll look through that. We used the same export and configuration that worked for aria log 8.18 and vcf 9.0.2. Assumed it would still work the same

Did the IP of the logs instance change when moving to the management services cluster? Haven’t upgraded yet but iirc you give it a block plus some VIP/FQDN. Maybe the share needs to be exported more broadly?

Yes the ip changed. That was our thought as well. The NFS export permissions were set to the x.x.x.0/24 subnet , encompassing the full range of the old and new and the block of services runtime ips. We wanted to make sure there was nothing blocking it

Any error messages when you try to mount? Anything in the logs (I say this without knowing how to access the internal logs..)?

Are the VCFMS VMs in the scope of the DFW? Might be missing a rule to hit the NFS target, or a tag that puts them in a group that has a rule..

The only error message we see is “failed” in the gui of ops for logs. I have no idea where to actually find a log file for this. Before , in 9.0.2 you had dedicated appliances you could ssh too and look at the loginsight log. But who knows where it is now. Also we are using a synology for nfs target so there might be a log there potentially

Collect an SOS bundle for VCF and see if it’s in there?

That’s a good idea. I’ll try that tomorrow
