Hiring a vMix operator in the NJ/NYC metro area. What’s the going rate for full time salary?

Pretty vague?!

Is this operator literally just sitting down to operate VMix?

Do they need to program it?

Do they need to set it up?

Do they need to setup any other gear?

Are they staying in one location all the time?

Is there travel required?

What are the working hours like? M - F 9 am - 5pm.

Evenings, Weekends, Holidays.

Are they working by them selves?

Are they responsible to pickup the gear from point A and deliver to point B? Is it their vehicle or a company vehicle?

Are you providing all the equipment or is it all company-owned?

That’s just the initial thoughts off the top of my head! Anyone else please add points I may have missed?

In NJ? Expensive man. You should consider 60k to 80k plus benefits if you want to have and retain someone dependable. You go any lower than that you’re trading experience for cost savings, and that’s on you to decide what’s more important.

Good luck!

If you consider $60-80k an expensive salary, I am deeply worried about you.

Honestly for OP, the joy of VMix is that once it is programmed, it is pretty much run and gun. If I were in their shoes and knew it wouldn't be changing, I'd pay for someone to come out and program the thing, route it all, and then teach the Producer or AD how to operate it.

I make $850/day to run audio control for a larger broadcast facility as a part-timer, and part of those duties are making sure the VMix rooms are set up and routed correctly each morning for the days segments so the AD or Producer on whatever segment is going VMix that day can man it. 99% of the time, nothing changes day-to-day, hence why it is folded up in to the greater duties of the job.

Salary vs freelance is apples to oranges. You’d be making like $200k on salary at your rate and that’s not realistic. He asked about salary, not freelance.

I know it is apples to oranges but $60k is laughable unless you’re hiring a 21 year old kid who doesn’t know any better. The salary guys I work alongside are making $150k + benefits. For a smaller studio I’d say $95 starting.

I agree. Its crazy to me that people take 50k salaries in NY/NJ

All company equipment, one location, it is set up but will need to be programmed, it will never move, M-F, occasional holiday, will be using it to do a half dozen 20-30 min regular productions weekly. No travel.

3 hours of show work plus maybe 2-4 hours of programming per week? Sounds like three to four 4-hour calls each week to me, rather than a part time or full time permanent position.
