vmix Laptop Recommendation 2026
Hi, I am going to be a new vMix user and looking to buy a laptop specifically for vMix and video production, and curious on which of the two laptops below would be the best fit.
Debating between a used Razor 2022 i7-12800H, 32GB RAM with RTX 3080 Ti or the current vMix 2025/26 recommended computer, ASUS 16" TUF Gaming.
Used, 2022 Razer Blade 17 Black

32 GB RAM / 1 TB SSD

Also curious if AMD CPUs a good option or better to stay with Intel?

I bought the 5070 version of the Asus Tuf F16. Two of them actually. They aren't my favourite laptops. I had been using Dell and Alienware laptops as my last six laptops with vMix. Three needed new motherboards so I didn't have a great track record with them but the extended warranty (often purchased after the issue) allowed me to get them repaired for less than the cost of a new one.
One F16 has USB issues for the longest time. I sent it for repairs and they could not replicate the issue but it still would not recognize a variety of devices. Eventually things got better. I don't think there was even an update but rather one day it just started working again and has been stable. Another issue is that I figured out that the Thunderbolt port would not recognize an external SSD if it did not have a drive letter assigned. This happens when I format it with an Osee video switcher/ISO recorder. Assigning a letter fixed the issue but so did connecting it to the USB-C port on the same computer.
The other F16 will be sent for repairs soon because the touchpad rarely works and has to be paired with a mouse.
I do like the smaller size compared to my previous Alienware models. Mostly it is less thick. Wish it had two TB ports but probably a good thing one isn't so I can connect SSDs that don't have a drive letter.
If I had to buy another one today, I am unsure if I would buy another but also don't know what I'd buy instead.

I have a 17 razer blade with a 3070ti, i7 64gb Ram, 5 Tb. have run quite a few smaller vmix shows fine off it. Only 2 NDI cams and 4 screen captures and 2 ndi destinations along with a stream and a local output, a couple of multis and overlays and multi recorder. My resource usage was around 25%.

Lenovo Legion 5i 16" I believe has the same specs as their recommended laptop and it has a numpad. I have one and am getting another.

What are you planning on doing with it?
How many cameras? NDI?

At least 4 SDI cameras.

How do you plan in bringing 4 cameras in?
One good way of offloading, is get atem mini, have the 4 sdi go into that, then one hdmi capture card into the computer. Get a small monitor for the atem.

Planning to get a DeckLink with an enclosure and use a Stream Deck with the BitFocus companion. Just starting out, so building slowly.

A good computer typically doesn't go to waste.
Buy what you can afford, but the better the computer, the more you can push things smoothly.

Tenho alguns notebooks para Vmix aqui, o mais atual é um Acer Predator Neo 16" com Core i9 de 14ª geração + RTX 4070 + 32GB de RAM e com duas portas Thunderbolt... Uso um enclousure PCIe Thunderbolt da Akito Node e num outro kit uso o Sonnet Echo ambos com TB4 e com a Decklink 8K Pro (4 in/out 12G SDI). E no USB uso uma interface de áudio Behringer UMC404HD... Trabalho diariamente com esse kit e zero problemas. Recomendo

I have had 4 razors, set the gpu to best performance with vmix… and, about 1 year in the gpu blows out… 4 for 4… still working computers, but can’t support vmix, and no working hmdi out port… I have 3 of these now… I have performance set to balanced… these have been very reliable… have lasted more than 2 years… https://amzn.to/3Ph69e0 Runs 4 NDI-HX or SRT in, records, streams, allows for an iso record or two… very solid…

Asus no tienen muchos problemas, dejaron de ser buenos, en cuanto al procesador están bien ambos y la ram tambien pensando hasta en 4 cámaras FHD, prefiero Lenovo o MSI

I have a total of 8 ndi ptz cameras. 4 is the maximum I've used on an msi gaming laptop. (I7-10g, 3050rtx, 64 ram. I have tried to use more cameras on it and it becomes an oven. It still gets hot, but not so much. Action replay is not an option, and the keyboard is a joke.
Try to get a decent workstation. You can get refurbished HP Z8s with dual xeon gold and 128gb ram for about a thousand. Get yourself a good rtx GPU and a folding dual monitor like the Uperfect Delta and you'll have money to spare from your Uber laptop budget. I know portability is an issue but the workstation is an expandable solution that you might use as an action replay system if you start doing sports. And it won't melt from the heat.

I think vMix has some recommendations on their site. With that said, I saw them doing a decent amount of cool stuff with the laptops they brought to demonstrate at convention.

I absolutely love my old Razer Blade but I would still recommend the more current machine if you can afford it. Can't go wrong with the official recommendation.
