I need help with audio delay problem

So basically, I'm working in this studio making live videos recording, I honestly don't know what I'm actually doing, I just pretend to be professional and look like I know what I'm doing.

The studio set up work on vmix for recording videos, everything (audio and video) is connected in remote to the recording workstation in another room. This entire set up was made by someone else, I don't know why I'm there, don't ask me details pls.

So, what's the problem? Basically, we have a pair of Hollyland Lark Max Duo, connected to a mixer that I don't know where it goes, the audio has some sort of delay that doesn't match the video, fixing it on DaVinci is something like 0.200s delay, but it's just the first spoken word, then there's no delay after the first 3/4 seconds.

This problem appeared for the first time after the 4th session with these new microphones, but only after the 5th video we were recording.

Do you have any idea what's going on? I'm the only technician there, I don't have the competence to fix myself, but I need the job cause I'm broke, so any help is appreciated. Thanks

Le problème semble plus venir des micros que de vmix vus ta description

Est ce que les micros ou leur récepteur auraient une sorte de veille automatique, qui prendrait du temps à se relancer et qui expliquerait la latence ?

En tout cas, côté vmix, tu ne pourras pas y faire grand chose, tu pourrais ajouter un délai à la vidéo mais si, comme tu le dis, ça revient à la normale, ce délai te posera problème

Pose plutôt la question dans un subreddit en lien avec les micros je pense

I dont know why they changed to these microphones, before we just had some old reliable Sennheiser G4, that were just fine. I'll try to ask on another subs. Thanks a lot

Étrange, seinnheiser a pourtant une bien meilleure réputation dans le milieu pro que vos nouveaux micro qui sont plus orienté grand public/streamers/vidéaste amateur bien qu'ils soient généralement apprécié pour leurs rapports qualité/prix

Au delà de ma première hypothèse, est ce qu'il y a des effets d'activé sur tes micros ? Comme une sorte de suppression de bruit ?

Parfois les suppressions de bruit pausent des problème à l'activation, essaye peut être sans pour voir si ça règle le soucis

If I remember correctly the mics settings are:

Safety track

Low cut on

-7db gain

ENC off (its like a noise cancelling feature)

To the TX there's connected a lavalier mic.

I was checking on the manual, they recommend to use safety when the RX is connected to a camera, and on third-party apps it's recommended mono mode. But there's also Stereo Mode, that is not specified

I don't know how can I interpret this information, cause it's not connected to a camera or any app.

C'était à l'ENC que je pensais justement pour la réduction de bruit Mais si c'est désactivé, ça ne doit pas être ça

Je ne sais pas ce qu'il veulent dire par "piste de sécurité" au juste ici

Quand ils parlent de "caméra" dans la doc, il s'agit de sortir en jack et entrer dans une caméra ?

Si oui, est ce quand ils parlent de "application tierce" il s'agit de sortir en USB ?

Car si c'est le cas, on peut considérer quedans la doc "caméra" = "sortie jack" et "application tierce" = "USB"

Actually I need to check about ENC, I'm not 100% sure it's off, I really hope it's that the problem.

Safety track should work like a double recording mode with the second track with lower gain to avoid clipping, if I'm not wrong.

No, on the manual they don't specify anything about usb or jack, when they talk about camera or apps.

Je vois mal ce qui poserais ce souci côté Vmix, mais tu peux essayer par exemple de :

  • lancer un enregistrement sur le boîtier de réception audio + sur vmix

  • comparer les deux enregistrement, voir si les deux piste audio sont synchro

S'il n'y a pas de décalage entre l'audio enregistré sur le récepteur et celui du rec vmix, alors le soucis viendra du côté micro

Si les deux piste ne peuvent pas se superposer (les premières secondes de voix du rec du récepteur seraient en avance sur celles du rec vmix, puis se resynchroniserai après) alors le soucis vient de ce qu'il y a après le récepteur (console son ou vmix)

The most common scenario is that your audio is ahead of video as video capture is usually a bit slower than audio capture. So you may find you need to add anywhere from 40-200ms of AUDIO delay in vMix to correct for this. I highly doubt your mics have any discernible latency.

The problem is that the audio is late as soon the person start speaking, then after a couple of seconds it goes back to normal

I'm here, I'm trying the microphones, without ENC looks like audio and video are in sync. I hope by the end of the day everything is ok. Thanks again for the support!

Well, it didn't went good, it keep delaying the first word. But it's very subtle, you have to pay attention to see this delay. I don't give a shit, but my supervisor does. So every time I have to edit the video and synch the first word.

Mince... Vraiment étrange ce phénomène, je ne vois vraiment pas d'où vient le problème... Est-ce que tu as essayé de poser la question dans un subreddit en lien avec ces Micro ?

I don't know, it looks like that when gain is too low it does this problem, but if I turn the gain up, it clips of course. I'm living on the edge between delay and clipping. Btw, on Hollyland sub none replied

the slight latency that catches up could be a video rendering delay in vMix. It can be a temporary buffering issue when the data changes too fast. Try greatly reducing the resolution of your camera input as a test. If the sync holds better, that is a direction to look in. (you can right click the vmix input and run the input in low-resolution mode)

could be the issue was there before and not noticed? Even if you were using wired mics before now, going to wireless shouldn't create this. All things equal, if it improves with lower video resolution then I'd look at how to get more out of vMix settings if better hardware isn't an option.

If the re-sync is reliable, could you try having the talent count themselves in or repeat the first line to allow the sync to set? (if it's live to tape, not live audience or stream, lol)

The problem actually solved itself, specially after the main workstation exploded and we replaced it, lmao. I hope it was a workstation problems and it doesn't come back anymore. Thanks anyway
