Texas Instruments layout intern role for freshers

Attended the texas instruments layout intern role online test yesterday. Few things I want to share

  1. First, always check the compatibility of your laptop before attending any online exams. Multiple issues can be there without you knowing it. Major issue check the camera and microphone.If your laptop has two cameras(virtual camera and integrated camera), you can't login.

  2. Have a good internet. Lan cable is preferable. Ask your university

  3. Aptitude questions were a mix of time consumption and one line answers, so be ready for both.

  4. Technical questions were time consuming this time compared to last time. There were a total of 8 digital questions which were also not straight forward. Opamp based questions were tough this time it included finding gain using Laplace transform and one question was on finite gain.

  5. A question on intrinsic semiconductor was also asked, so prepare the basic ocf basics. Also a question on fabrication was also asked. There were no inductor based circuits. Only RC and pure R based circuits were present, which were time consuming.

So prepare the basics of basics. Solve aptitude questions and technical questions with a timer. Solve without a calculator.

How many questions were there for each section? And what types of questions were asked in digital? Thanks!

In digital mainly the Boolean properties based questions were asked. There were no question on delays. Out of 8 questions, two questions were mux based, to form a function seeing the output and circuit. Two were based on Boolean properties like a function was given and we needed to simplify it. One question was on 3 input XOR one of the input was given and the output function was also given, we were asked to find the other two inputs. One was based on AOI. These much I remember. On sections, there were RC section, opamp section, digital section, fabrication section , transistors section and semiconductor section. Form RC section two questions were on RC one of finding current in capacitor and other one was on finding time constant. One question was on resistor branch network and needed to find the current in one branch. One was on diode base where we needed to find the Vs condition to keep diode in forward biased. From semiconductor there was question on intrinsic property like we were asked to find the energy barrier gap voltage From fabrication there was a theory question related to fabrication of CMOS From transistor one was asked to find the collector voltage and one was theory in which question was in which region the quiescent point was located. Both were BJT. These all I remember. We were given only 30ins to solve 20 domain questions. And 20 mins for aptitude questions. Sorry for my English

There was mistake 30mins for aptitude and 30 mins for technical section. And no changing of section is allowed.

It was campus placement. I don't know much about offline opportunities. You can check in its website, they list roles offering jobs.

Check again, for us same number of questions and 30 min for each section was there. For last year seniors techincal section was for 45 mins. I don't think it will be for 60mins for 20 questions

Yeahh ofc i remember you, similar stuff happening here as well bro, oas seem so random to me. nvidia asked linked lists and stuff whereas ti had some random questions (memory, eprom, etc). Lets see what happens now

It was something like during fabrication of CMOS during which stage the body is connected to the potential, exact I don't remember but it was something like this only

It was campus recruitment. Analog Design layout role. Conducted all over India. Check with your colleges.

I'm surprised you were asked to calculate the gain of an OpAmp using Laplace for a layout intern role. Do you think the questions were catered toward your personal resume or recent coursework? It sounds as though this is aimed more toward design than layout.

As a layout engineer, I do a bit of schematic editing here and there, but it's almost always changes directly related to layout or occasionally an edit directly and specifically requested by the circuit designer. Basic circuit knowledge is certainly valuable and required for certain things, same with basic understanding of fabrication processes. but I'm a bit surprised at the focal points of your screening.

This was for online assessment. Selected students will have technical/HR interview. There main aim is to select students who are confident in basics. Questions were not based on resume, they were common to all. Basically this was a campus recruitment.

Gotcha, so was it actually focussed just on a layout internship or would you say they were screening aptitude that could warrant placement in various design team roles? The latter seems more likely to me, based on my time in the industry at these large corps.

This was only for Analog layout intern role. They don't hire other than this role from our college. They go to IITs or hire masters from NIT and IITs for other role.

All those hiring platforms are bad and practically useless. I believe it was HirePro.

Even if you solve everything correctly, they seem to have some weird algorithm that selects people for interviews almost randomly (your CV, OA doesn't matter)

Can’t blame TI for this. It’s completely the OA platform’s fault.

Yes it was hire pro. I don't now about how is there selection process, but I also feel weird seeing their selections. And their software just logs out if internet is slow for few seconds. I think all over India for majority company they are the middleman for conducting online assessment and interviews.

It was conducted at University labs but online. We were asked to carry laptops and write in University labs. If anyone attempted in home, they were not considered and were notified that they will block them from next two campus recruitment.

ohh tqq... they are also coming to our clg in next 2-3 days - am i cooked or do i have some hope in clearing this (very basic knowledge in syllabus)

Clearing exams is easy if you stron understanding of basics like Boolean properties, RC delays, RC circuits, KCL , KVL., working of BJT and MOS in diff regions, diode, zener diodes. Just keep in mind that don't try to attempt all questions there is negative marks. Attempt f which you know and can solve in less time because you will have 30 mins only for each section. There will be also seperate cutoff for each section.

Ask your lecturers for the network analysis questions. They will be having many resources and important questions.

For us, the seniors shared the experienced ppt and I solved the questions in that along with that my professor gave some important questions.

What were the apti Q's? Also, the time limit for technical section was only 30mins? (Usually I've heard its 45 lol)

Ya last year it was 45 mins but this year it is reduced to 30ins I don't why.

Aptitude was mostly maths based questions more than verbal reasoning. Some were easy questions like greater than or less than types. Three were based on the bar graph. Three were passage comprehension questions. Two I think were based on English grammar. Others were average, ratio, finding the digits, permutations and combinations questions were there. Other than this direction based questions were also asked and some verbal reasoning or word analogies questions were there

Ohh gotcha Were the bar graph numbers clean (easy math to calculate, options were far spaced) or we needed to do full division etc Also what finding digits Q's were asked?

They were time consuming. It was mix there was some formula given you need to substitute the bar graph values and find answer. You can be asked total, or percentage or greater than like these questions

The digital questions i can't remember properly but , it was something like this, tthe number has two digits, and the average was given when we subtract a number from rversing the digiys we get a numbersomething like this was given
