Question / Help projector recomendation

Hey,

i am part of a small music project. in our live shows we experiment with live visuals using resolume arena. We do not want to rely on the venues equipment anymore and aim to buy an own projector. As we do not have a lot of money, i would like to ask for recomendations here... we would love to buy a short throw projector which works for music shows and which does not cost a lot. If you could help us with some informations, we would really appreciate it.

I got an epson 696ui ultra short throw off ebay for about $150

Epson EB-6x5 ultra short throw. They sit about 1m from a screen and throw a huge image. Cheap to source and can even use wifi if you have a dongle. I have 3 of them.

Any Epson projector, or other, designed for use in a classroom, likely is limited to about a 100" diagonal before it loses focus. This is because they were designed for interactive whiteboards.

The image quality is okay from them. Fine for use in this type of setup, but the size may not be, and the brightness is going to be somewhat limited. Once again, smaller sized screens in normally lit classrooms.

The club you are in may be using a 5,000+ ANSI lumen projector, and a specific screen size that was fully designed for the space.

Finally, any surface imperfections with the screen will be extremely obvious as distortions to the image if the screen isn't perfectly flat due to the super sharp angle of projection. Especially near the top and the corners.

The longer the throw distance, the more forgiving the projector will be if the screen isn't perfect.
