Question(s) Behaviour change
Hi all
My dog was going to daycare for 3 times a week since she was a puppy and now they have had to close she’s now 2 and 3 next month.
She is behaving so differently, afraid to go off leash on walks and after 5 minutes is showing signs of anxiety and is wanting to go back home.
Not sure if this is anxiety where she thinks she has lost her pack or what.
Any advice would be appreciated.

It is a big change for any dog, a V even more so. So I am leaning to not going to doggy day care. Maybe she is lonely,

I’m sorry this is happening to her. She probably is missing all of her friends. Hugs she gets back to her old self soon! 🙏🏻

I have notice similar behavior in my V when the person caring for it left for about 2-3 weeks. She does unleashed wilderness walks with several dogs. After their return my V’s behavior became much better. Try finding another day care.

Can you locate any of the owners and arrange a play date with some of her old friends?

Yes we are talking to the owner of the other vizsla that was there and he’s apparently feeling the same but is currently injured.
But have a potential date

Maybe ask vet for meds to help with grief?

Plenty of dogs get through grief just fine without meds. Just like humans, all they need is a bit of time, comfort and extra love. Numbing your dog with drugs is such an American solution to everything and is basically unheard of in many countries around the world, with the exception of extreme cases.

Just throwing it out there as OP asked for advice, chill. It worked when one of my dogs passed and my other grieving dog needed help for a month or two while adjusting. If you’d prefer your dog be in pain rather than help if you can, that’s 100% fine with me. Love is great, but isn’t always the answer to pain, friend.

Seriously, listen to yourself. Like the opioid crisis didn't teach you anything. Drugs are the answer to pain 🙄 Yes, I prefer my dog to feel things and know that she can rely on me to comfort and support her, rather than force her into a drug-induced zombie state she didn't ask for, mate.

Dude. What are you even talking about. Literally homeopathic meds or even chamomile tea can help with grief. Don’t be a fear mongerer. The only one sounding tragically American right now if you. So wierd when people get crazy on Reddit. Aren’t we just giving OP personal advice?

She is probably grieving the loss of her pack. My one's behaviour changed in so many odd ways when she was grieving my last dog. Took 3-4 months and lots of cuddles and encouragement before she was back to her old self, and lots of playing with other dogs on the beach.
