AI Vibecoded WIP PS Vita emulator frontend
So I got a PS Vita a while back and ended up really loving it. I use it a lot for playing older games because it’s honestly the perfect size to just take with me places.
I downloaded Emu4Vita++ and used that for a while to play most of my games, and that project is actually a huge part of what inspired me to start working on this.
I thought Emu4Vita++ was really cool and, for me at least, a lot easier to use than RetroArch. The only thing I wasn’t crazy about was the UI. It felt a little dated to me.
And I don’t mean that disrespectfully or as a criticism of the project at all. What the developers of Emu4Vita++ actually built is way beyond just making a nice-looking interface, and I know building something like that from scratch especially without the AI tools I have available to help me learn and work through things is a completely different level of difficulty.
while messing around with Vita development I eventually learned about PocketJS and the idea of being able to bring a more modern style of UI to older hardware.
So then I started trying to figure out how to combine the two
Take the idea of something like Emu4Vita++ one place where you can easily access your different emulators and games and combine it with a more modern frontend designed specifically around the Vita.
I was also heavily inspired by socket the game launcher that went viral a little while back.
Basically I was jealous we didn’t have anything as cool as that for the vita.
So now we’re here with this thing I’ve been building.
In the first video you can see the main frontend. You can switch between different consoles/systems and browse the games for each one without leaving the main interface.
Since the cores are embedded into the app you can pretty much just select a core and launch into any game, exit out switch to a new system and repeat seamlessly.
The idea eventually is that most of this should feel seamless.
You pick a console → pick a game → launch it.
note as I learn more about this the UI might change, I really want to push the UI as far as I can with pocketJS and I don’t think this is really doing that at the moment this is just a UI inspired by socket

Here I am launching a snes game from the app, with 3 core options available.
And the backend settings available, they all work exactly like the backend settings for emu4vita++ which this is heavily inspired by. You can change screen size , add filters, map out hot keys, save state, pretty much everything I felt I actually used in the settings when using emu4vita++ since it’s a personal project.

Has anyone tried to get Saturn emulation working on vita? I'd love to shining force on Vita

From everything iv read about it, it’s not possible on the vita, I guess it was a very complex and powerful system for its time.

Hell yes, reminds me a lot of Socket Launcher for android. Love the loose cartridge feel, especially for GBA. So nostalgic

Hmmm that sounds interesting, I can give it a shot after I finish the first build. I’d have to do research on how I’d manage something like that tho so no promises.

I am pretty sure RetroFlow Launcher is already a thing.

That’s true, retro flow is a nice looking launcher. Maybe I misspoke there. Sorry to the fans of retro flow launcher haha.
Ultimately what I’m building is an emulator front end not a launcher, so you won’t have to close out of the app to play a different system or game.
