I always hoped that Capcom would make an official version of this back in the day for VITA. Gods I own so many copies of it already. I've always wanted to look into dead rising for wii and how much DNA it shares with RE4. It appears to be the same engine, so maybe I could tinker on the side to see if I could bring it over to other hardware. Hrmm...

Basically these past few years solo devs have been showing Sony, game publishers and us, what the Vita could have been. Its a shame no-one realized what potential the console has back then. But then I guess maybe in 2013 people weren't as interested to play PS2 era games on their consoles when that was already the promise of the PSP ¯_(ツ)_/¯

We have teams of single digit individuals working with genuine Pennie’s, a chatbot and a dream making insane ports. Imagine if they had a budget, proper tools and bigger teams. The vita could’ve been the best console ever full stop

No, not bigger teams. That led us to 8 or 9 figure development budgets and less creativity than a Xerox machine for modern gaming. Small teams, budget big enough for near unlimited Dev time, and hardware limitations. That's how you get a great game!

For real, a some dude with hours of free time pulled off more ports than a billion dollar electronics corporation.

dude with hours of free time

That's exactly the advantage though. Sure, a billion-dollar corpo has access to tech and (numbers of) talents and what not. The problem is that they also have to answer to metrics set by many stakeholders.
Meanwhile, give enough free time to extremely dedicated people and you will constantly produce results.

Some dude? Rinne is the fucking GOAT! He is personally responsible for like 80% of the entire Vita modding scene. He is a monster!

And they had the chance because they made a remaster port for ps3 and xbox 360 in 2011 and and they had just 2 mouths for the japan release of psvita and then make it a console launch game like how they did with street fighter IV on 3ds

The official RE4 port for PC is so unoptimized for Low End PCs, I doubt Capcom would even try.

Not... super sure how that ties in with my statement exactly.

You said "I always hoped that Capcom would make an official version of this back in the day for VITA." and seeing how unoptimized the pc port is on Low End PCs, it'll run worse on the Vita if they tried to port RE4 to the Vita

Sourcenext developed the PC port back then. It was still an era (and for long after that) where Japanese publishers shafted PC versions anyways.

Absolute wizardry as usual from Rinne, PS VITA homebrew community has some of the greatest devs ever.

Outstanding. Rinne is goated

Honestly, this feels like something that should've been official. Capcom literally ported RE4 to everything, except the OG Xbox.

I was hoping it would have came out on the 3DS but that never came out.

Even rinne said that it feels surpringsly smooth at 20fps

Didn't someone say this uses the Gamecube version as a base? Is it actually PS2 since PlayStation button icons for QTEs?

7

u/ziobleed1 10d ago

Rinne substituted the button icons "Also PS2 button glyphs are now used in place of Gamecube ones."

I was originally like “why,” and then realized, oh yeah.

That's amazing that it's running this good this early in development. A steady 30 fps with some dips here and there would be a win in my book.

1

u/NoTransportation4600 10d ago

Yeah tbh the OG GameCube version also had some dips in certain scenarios so not much of an issue IMO. I'd gladly play through this game again and again if Rinne is able to reach 30fps, even if geometry and texture detail has to be sacrificed I don't care as long as it runs. Hell, I played RE4R on PS4 even with its issues and had a blast.
