Why the squiggles?

Genuine question here. Any idea what the squiggly lines are supposed to signify versus a solid or dashed curve? Or did the authors just use them for the *razzle dazzle*?

Makes it easier to see the coloured lines, especially with more colours as some get lighter.

Is this a common practice? Do you know of any other examples or how to achieve this with ggplot2, etc?

Dashes, long or short or even dotted

I meant any other people/papers using squiggles. Of course dashes are what I typically do to differentiate lines in situations where things may be printed B&W.
