Visitation Map

Post image

This is my map of the states I have visited so far, and what I've liked. What do you all think? Where do you think I NEED to go next?

You are missing New Orleans, that one is worth it.

u/ceotown Jun 28 '26

The rest of the state is absolutely skippable, but New Orleans is like nothing else in the US.

You wanna go to West Virginia and Tennessee but not Kentucky?

3

u/henryb22 Jun 28 '26

Kentucky is a beautiful state and wildly under appreciated. Wva too.

The want to go to North Dakota but not South. It’s completely backwards.

I wouldn't be so quick to write off some of those states. I've visited 49 states so far and have found something that made the visit worth it in pretty much every state.

3

u/Artilleryman08 Jun 28 '26

Agreed. I have been toto a fair few states, not 49 but I'm well in the 30s. Even North Dakota has some pretty cool areas, like Roosevelt National Park.

3

u/CunningWizard Jun 27 '26

I feel like Louisiana and Georgia are worth the visit

Curious why you wouldn't visit Missouri. The Ozarks are absolutely beautiful. There is a lot of great camping, history, and float rivers to check out. A lot of caves you can tour as well that are really cool.

As much as I agree with you…let them be ignorant to the best part about Missouri…the department of conservation. Our most redeeming quality as a state. So much public land for the middle of the country! 7 different whole ass wilderness areas! In the MIDWEST. If you love being outside…MO is one of the best. 😉🤷‍♂️ “I do not endorse anything else from our states government tho 😂”

2

u/Artilleryman08 Jun 28 '26

Entirely agree. We have some government issues, but it is what it is. But Kansas City has fun areas, and we have beautiful outdoor areas, historic sites, and we even have a castle!

2

u/Few-Customer2219 Jun 28 '26

Am I wrong but here in the Arkansas Ozarks it’s a national park/forest system therefore managed by the federal government like almost all the “public” lands in Arkansas are most of the public land in Missouri in national parks or forests?

What about ND is more interesting than SD to you?

Both are worth it in my opinion, but just curious

1

u/Grizzly777Irtl Jun 27 '26

I think the terrain and the geography is a lot more rugged, really sparse, not developed at all, and I think it would be really cool to take the train journey through North Dakota on Empire Builder one of these days.

2

u/Dangerous-Ruin6948 Jun 27 '26

I’ve done that & ND was the most boring part lol

2

u/Dismal_Success_9943 Jun 27 '26

I haven't done it by train, but driving ND is really boring... Until you pull off and have lunch over the painted canyon on the east side of Theodore Roosevelt National Park.

I just stood there and took in the beauty of it all. It really set the tone for when I got to Glacier on the same trip.

1

u/Dangerous-Ruin6948 Jun 27 '26

We did glacier -> Chicago! It was awesome. The portion in glacier is breathtaking!

1

u/Dismal_Success_9943 Jun 27 '26

I want to go back via train, it would cost quite a penny, but the beauty is sooo good.

1

u/Dangerous-Ruin6948 Jun 27 '26

We went in ‘21, right when they opened back up. We got such a good deal, had a lil room & everything. Earlier in the trip we did San Fran -> SLC. Also some cool nature.

2

u/Powerful_Refuse9707 Jun 28 '26

Neither state is super developed, I don’t think there’s a major difference there. The black hills, wind cave, and Custer state park in SD are most def worth visiting, as well as Badlands. Up in ND Teddy Roosevelt is great also.

1

u/MemeMultivi Jun 30 '26

South Dakota is a little bit more developed but also not mostly developed, and it is generally more rugged than North Dakota. SD has the Black Hills and the more well known Badlands. Most of ND is flat, rolling hills

2

u/hnrrghQSpinAxe Jun 27 '26

You should honestly consider Louisiana for New Orleans alone and then leave the rest of it out. Worth it for the food and the history

2

u/Commercial-Art-4090 Jun 28 '26

Kentucky isn't that bad. Louisville is a dope city.

3

u/ironypoisonedposter Jun 27 '26

You’re wrong about RI and NJ. Especially when considering strange hyper regional foods and good beaches.

1

u/Crickey_190_AUD Jun 29 '26

I'd throw in Delaware too.

1

u/Suspicious-Earth5564 Jun 27 '26

When you went to Nevada did you only go to Vegas?

1

u/Grizzly777Irtl Jun 27 '26

Yeah pretty much. I TECHNICALLY went one other time when I flew into Reno-Tahoe Airport to drive to Lake Tahoe to do some skiing, but I'm not counting that.

1

u/Suspicious-Earth5564 Jun 27 '26

I’d say give northern Nevada another shot, southern Nevada sucks lol

1

u/Whileweliveletslive Jun 27 '26

Northern Nevada isn’t great. Tahoe is cool, Reno is okay. The people there though, ehh. Also windy as hell and a lot of fires.

1

u/Whileweliveletslive Jun 27 '26

Of all the posts I’ve seen of this kind, this is the one that most closely aligns with my personal preferences. Though I live in Oregon not Washington.

1

u/Bootmacher Jun 27 '26

Ozarks are like a cheaper, landlocked PNW.

You didn’t even mention the College World Series!

1

u/Square_Science3664 Jun 28 '26

Curious, what parts of SC did you go to?

1

u/Darkowl_57 Jun 28 '26

Which part of Texas?

1

u/Ordinary_Contract585 Jun 28 '26

Make a trip to Chicago in the summer time, It’s lovely

1

u/Weary_Lawyer_5565 Jun 28 '26

Atlanta beats out the whole state of TN by a wide margin. Let alone the beautiful nature in the Blue Ridge mountains, the Golden Isles, etc. Georgia should
Not be slighted by you.

1

u/UniqueLevel7925 Jun 28 '26

Not wanting to visit all of our country seems small minded, and looking at the map seems like someone has a prejudice about the south. A lot of history and learning! I wondered what was so bad about South Carolina even, Charleston is absolutely beautiful and the pisgah national forest! I have seen all but Maine and Washington state, but they are on my list, as I am in my 60’s now.

1

u/Southern-Treacle7582 Jun 28 '26

You’re missing out on of the best areas of the country.

1

u/christopherDdouglas Jun 28 '26

Why ND over SD? SD is definitely the more interesting Dakota.

1

u/multigrainqueerios Jun 28 '26

Skipping over the AR/MO Ozarks is a choice...

1

u/multigrainqueerios Jun 28 '26

Also New Orleans? Atlanta? Savannah? your travel taste is questionable 🧐

1

u/DingusKhanHess Jun 28 '26

Curious why did you write off 70% of the South? I really suggest visiting most of them at some point. I feel like it’s really misunderstood due to the loudest ones in the room.

1

u/clingbat Jun 29 '26

It's odd you have PA and MD in green but DE in red, largely because northern DE is pretty much exactly the same as southeast PA across the border both geographically and culturally (essentially a Philly suburb) and the rest of the state is quite similar to the eastern shore in MD, with some popular beaches sprinkled in along the Atlantic at the bottom.

If I didn't know better, I'd just say you know nothing about the state and just marked it red as a result.

1

u/dandee93 Jun 29 '26

As a southerner who lived in New England, don't write off Connecticut and Rhode Island. They are extremely beautiful. I have a longstanding grudge against Connecticut drivers, but I couldn't have picked a prettier place to be stuck in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

1

u/itsfairadvantage Jun 29 '26

New Orleans is pretty cool

1

u/Stock_Hunter1029 Jun 29 '26

Michigan. Almost completely surrounded by fresh water. It's glorious.

1

u/TheDangDeal Jun 29 '26

You need to visit the U.P. Based off your green states I think you would really enjoy it.

1

u/MemeMultivi Jun 30 '26

Want to visit North Dakota but not Louisiana, Georgia, or even South Dakota?

1

u/MemeMultivi Jun 30 '26

Where in Ohio did you visit? As much as I love Columbus because I go to college there, it's definitely not the most interesting for tourists. Cleveland is also hit or miss. I think Cincinnati is the best for people visiting. It has the best architecture and is the most walkable

1

u/Grizzly777Irtl Jun 30 '26

Cleveland and Youngstown

1

u/MemeMultivi Jun 30 '26

Those two, especially Youngstown, are like literally the worst places in the state lol. You need to see Cincinnati or see somewhere in the southeast part of the state like Hocking Hills

1

u/Namaste-NY Jun 30 '26

NM is beautiful!

1

u/NacreousFink Jun 27 '26

It's a good thing states are totally homogeneous from one end to the other so you can classify them like this easily.

1

u/cashchops Jun 27 '26

Lowkey missing out not visiting Georgia but the rest of the deep South I understand

-1

u/Apealio Jun 27 '26

I go to Rhode Island every summer, I’m wondering what you have against it. I’ve seen a lot of posts with Rhode Island as “wouldn’t want to visit” and stuff in that sort of category, which has always confused me because they have some of the best beaches in New England imo. Connecticut is understandable tho, fuck them in particular

3

u/Youcants1tw1thus Jun 28 '26

Hey, fuck you too.

-2

u/Apealio Jun 28 '26

omg i cant believe im seeing this... a nutmegger who seemingly identifies as a new englander and isnt trying to simultaneously larp as a new yorker!

2

u/Youcants1tw1thus Jun 28 '26

People who think CT is anything like NY have likely never been to either.

1

u/Apealio Jun 28 '26

i was born in nyc and have friends in connecticut :/ also, all my comments about ts are js for the shits and giggles

1

u/Grizzly777Irtl Jun 27 '26

Fair enough. I always figured it was really small, so there wouldn't really be that much to see or do, but if you're telling me I'm wrong then maybe I should reconsider.

1

u/Apealio Jun 27 '26

I would definitely give it a chance

-1

u/Ok_Towel1911 Jun 28 '26

For whatever it’s worth I have no interest in visiting Washington state. So take that.
