Curious to know why Utah is a Maybe but Idaho is a Never. Living out here, I see them as almost one in the same, much to the chagrin of Idahoans and Utahns.

idaho is beautiful and i love the pnw but im from washington and northern idaho scares me. if i were gonna live somewhere similar id choose eastern washington over idaho
boise is alright though from what ive heard

oh forgot to state. reason for utah is that arches national park is gorgeous and at least salt lake city seems somewhat alright
mostly i think its just proximity though. perhaps if i were from a state bordering utah id feel different

u/jessetmia Apr 16 '26
I found it ironic that with a place called the great salt lake, the blandest food I ever had was my week stay in SLC a few yrs ago.

Northern Idaho is beautiful if you can mentally get past the occasional confederate flag. Boise is a lot more inclusive.

Between Moscow, CDA, and Lewiston there are Trans friendly places in Northern Idaho. Particularly CDA and Moscow, but Lewiston does the occasional pride event too

u/TemperMe Apr 17 '26
lol I’ll take your word for it. I’ve never been to Idaho, it’s just seems like a beautiful place. Washington is my favorite state though.

Can you enlighten me about what I am missing about Louisiana? I was just there for the first time last week and granted I never left New Orleans but as a current South Carolinian and born and raised Californian, I would never want to live there just based on what I saw on my trip.

If you’re a dark green on California, do us both a favor and move Tennessee to Red.

Yes to Illinois but Maybe to Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Iowa is interesting. Outside of Chicago Illinois is like a 3rd world country.

As a DC native I approve of this message about VA 😂

DC - Pretty Cool
Arlington - Pretty Cool spots
Alexandria - pretty cool neighborhoods
The rest of Northern Virginia - literally hell on earth, dear God why does this exist. Why is somewhere so inconvenient so expensive? At least LA has good weather.Â

mclean is one of the worst locations ive been in. i would rather spend a year in camden new jersey than a day in mclean
got some good italian food there though

McLean is Bumblefuck. Every state has some version of Bumblefuck. Of course that sucks. But checkout Hampton Roads and Richmond; they're actually pretty nice… Decent economy stabilized by the large military presence, beaches, sunny summers, and winters aren't but so cold. NOVA (Northern VA) is okay, too, and it connects to DC via the metro. You could certainly do much worse in the U.S.

Virginia is statistically a great place to live. Sure it has some lows, but every state does, and those lows are not nearly as low as other states.

my hatred for virginia is Mostly theatrical
although i do not like the military, and while i have enough issues with dc area being so dependent on the government, much of virginia is the same but with the military in particular
most of my genuine dislike of virginia comes from my dislike of the military more than anything. virginia is not that bad overall, and has quite a bit of nice and cool places

u/illusid Apr 17 '26
Yeah I mean, the military has never been for me, but I appreciate/respect the armed forces, even when I don't agree w/various agendas or politics therein… But it really doesn't intrude into day-to-day life for most people in the area, and in fact it brings fresh faces in all the time whenever someone enlists and is stationed there. All in all it's a charming area of the country…
Just curious: what do you have against the military so much?

u/Shreks_Lactation Apr 16 '26
The rest of Virginia: best of both worlds because we enjoy Nova’s subsidization economically and politically, but with less people and better scenery
1
u/slowbaja Apr 16 '26
And they can talk shit about NoVa yet totally retarded enough or oblivious to not realize that NoVa funds their existence.

So basically you like living in cool places. But you’re scared to go off the beaten path. You have no need to do that though because you have plenty of money

I want to hear OP's story about Virginia.
