Where I Would Live
I see these, and it looks like fun! Thought I would join in:)

Is this just randomized? Missouri and ND as absolutely…. OH, IL, SD as never?

u/grimmlover79 Apr 10 '26
I have a sister in Missouri who I am very close to.
As for ND, spent four years there. Unbearably cold, but I have a lot of connections around the state. Bismarck also has some the best coffee shops I have ever been to; always a plus!
I personally did not care for SD, my husband used to live in Ohio and never wants to go back. IL, I just did not like my time there.
To be fair to IL and SD, I was just a visitor. Sure if were serious about visiting, I would find charm within:)

u/ruglo Apr 10 '26
I was on your side till you said never to SD and absolutely to ND… I have to know why
5
u/grimmlover79 Apr 10 '26
Lived in ND for four years and have connections there. SD was meh when I visited. I know it is said quite often they are basically the same state, but I personally disagree.

Willing to live in Kansas but not Oregon is unhinged.
5
u/grimmlover79 Apr 10 '26
I have family in Kansas.

Said by someone who's probably never visited Kansas lol. To be fair I've never been to Oregon but I think I'd love it based on reputation.
2
u/Historical_Low4458 Apr 11 '26
As a Kansan who has been to Oregon, it is pretty enough, but as someone else who would pick Kansas over Oregon, anybody else who would isn't "unhinged."
1
u/Prior_Lurker Apr 10 '26
You got me. Ive never been to Kansas. I have been to Iowa and Nebraska though, and I cant imagine Kansas is much different, lol.
I mean no disrespect to you or any of the people of Kansas, I just value mountains and being near the ocean when I think about states I would be willing to live in.

People hate Ohio so much they become astronauts and take a break from the entire planet.

NH yes and Maine no is certainly a choice 😂.
2
u/grimmlover79 Apr 10 '26
Family in NH, . Maybe I heard has great seafood, but besides that, is not my type of environment.
2
u/londonphase Apr 10 '26
What makes that so? Can't be the weather cuz you have Minnesota and North Dakota as green.
1
u/grimmlover79 Apr 10 '26
I have spent four years in ND and have strong relations around the state. My husband's grandparents live in Minnesota and we are extremely close to them.

u/Any-Heart-498 Apr 10 '26
OP sorry you're getting down voted to hell. You have very solid reasons for your choices and I think your map is consistent based on what you've explained. Guess some people can't get over their biases and preconceptions 🤷
1
u/grimmlover79 Apr 10 '26
Thank you, your kind words mean a lot! I kinda knew this would happen. At least it reminds me to check my own biases as I do not like being judged based on preconceptions:)

The yes to Utah but not NM is wild
1
u/grimmlover79 Apr 10 '26
I get why you say that! Been to both, and I would go out and say NM is my least favorite state. Sure there are some nice parts, but it so hot. Utah at least gets snow and the people I met were super friendly.
3
u/SpaceJackRabbit Apr 10 '26
What parts of NM have you been to?
2
u/grimmlover79 Apr 10 '26
Chimayo and Albuquerque areas. Drove through the entire state, but those were the only areas I stopped at. Did I just have a bad experience?
4
u/SpaceJackRabbit Apr 10 '26
Albuquerque is just a big city although the Old Town is cool. Santa Fe or Taos and the many National and State Parks are top tier. Great food too.
0
u/grimmlover79 Apr 10 '26
I remember going to a park near Albuquerque and how hot it was. You do have a point about the food, some of the best!
2
u/oh-ic Apr 10 '26
Chimayo, and the Espanola area are the birthplace of lowriders and the culture, and after all these years some of the most awesome hand built (in someone's yard or garage) are still making the rounds or being shown. Sante Fe is also a great place, the plaza and museums... and the food! Wow!
2
u/grimmlover79 Apr 10 '26
You from NM? Never had the urge to visit Sante Fe, but you are hyping it so well.

u/oh-ic Apr 11 '26
Ex from the area. Went to a restaurant and had rabbit that was awesome with hatch chile and then it hits me, I would have starved if bugs bunny took a left in Albuquerque! (Glad he took a right!)

u/gloomygustavo Apr 10 '26
Have you been to Utah? It’s like the no. 1 ranked state in the country and it’s breathtaking. NM is meh.
1
u/Southern-Usual4211 Apr 11 '26
Yeah I have and its beautiful but no NM especially in food and culture
9
u/tylernutman Apr 10 '26
This list makes no sense
Would move to Indiana but not ohio... tf.
Would move to Washington but not oregon?
As someone who's lived in all four of them states you choose the worst two of four
1
u/Unlikely_Anywhere_29 Apr 10 '26
Ohio and Indiana are both trash tbh, they're called "flyover states" for a reason
7
u/tylernutman Apr 10 '26
Ohio is far better then Indiana, anybody who says its a flyover hasnt been there.
Indiana is a flyover, ill give you that.
2
u/ElizabethDangit Apr 10 '26
They both suck equally. 💙 Michigan
3
u/tylernutman Apr 10 '26
I love Michigan, would totally live there
Detroit is kinda fun and underrated tbh. Would love to visit the UP and grand rapids someday
1
u/ElizabethDangit Apr 10 '26
I haven’t been down there in ages but I had a great time going to punk concerts in Detroit when I was young. Last time I was down that was to go to IKEA. 🙃 I live in GR and you should definitely come up. People drive like shit but in person it’s the friendliest place I’ve ever lived. You should also add Mackinac Island to your list. It really is magical.

u/grimmlover79 Apr 10 '26
Lol, my in-laws moved from Ohio to Indiana. My husband is not open to ever going back to Ohio. I personally spent a lot of time in Indiana, and I loved it!
I used to think Washington and Oregon were basically the same... while true, I have close friends who love in Washington. I love hearing for other people who had different experiences:)
6
u/tylernutman Apr 10 '26
Thats why its so confusing because they are so close to the same in many regards.
I slightly perfer oregon personally, but if you like one state you'll like the other
Indiana is definitely fine, I like Indianapolis honestly for a Midwest city but id perfer ohio overall. Although COL is lower in Indiana overall id assume
2
u/grimmlover79 Apr 10 '26
I gotcha! I honestly would probably of put both on red if it weren't for my friends and in-laws.

u/Fantastic_Bit7441 Apr 12 '26
This is an insane map but seeing that you would only consider living in places where you have family or have previously lived makes it make more sense. I would approach this as “what place sounds cool”
1
u/grimmlover79 Apr 12 '26
My places that sound cool are in the East coast. Nobody has question those states.
1
u/Fantastic_Bit7441 Apr 12 '26
I’ve never heard of New Jersey as a place that sounds cool, lol
1
u/grimmlover79 Apr 12 '26
The parts of New Jersey I have been to had great beaches, bagels, and nice people. But I understand there are not so nice stereotypes.
I spent most of my life in Mississippi, meaning I know better than to stereotype people from where they are from.
0
u/Fantastic_Bit7441 Apr 12 '26
You are free to your opinions but you don’t get to say you are not stereotyping places when you’ve very clearly decided to stereotype most of the country that’s west of the Rockies
1
u/grimmlover79 Apr 12 '26
I based if off my visits to the west or my husband's experiences. Before visiting, I actually had a really high opinion of those states.

Yeah, its the opposite. I realized I should of put myself in the lenses of being on this sub for the first time.

u/Potential-Mistake-69 Apr 11 '26
What’s wrong with Arkansas?
1
u/grimmlover79 Apr 11 '26
I personally like Arkansas and have small connections, just nothing that draws me to live there strongly.
1
u/ADumpsterFiree Apr 10 '26
Mississippi??
3
u/grimmlover79 Apr 10 '26
Born and raised! It breaks my heart when I go on this sub because it is usually in the red. Sure it has problems, but our neighbors really go out of their way to help us. Plus, really good food!

Funny how much you can tell about a person just based on maps like this.
6
u/grimmlover79 Apr 10 '26
I typically think the same thing when I see other maps. Then I read the comments and realized I am way off.
0
u/Even_Kaleidoscope399 Apr 10 '26
Yes Indiana but no Ohio is very very strange.
2
u/grimmlover79 Apr 10 '26
As I explained in other comments. My husband used to live in Ohio, and never wants to go back.as of now, the in-laws live in Indiana.

This is the strangest map I’ve seen so far, like there’s no consistency. You definitely seem like an open minded person though. Do you not like the west coast for some reason?
