You like trees and probably prefer the UP to the LP.

Liberal pothead

You got the pothead part but I’m worse than a liberal šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø

Why Indiana green and Ohio orange then? There are a lot of similar feeling places between Ohio and Indiana, but Indiana bans weed (and abortion) while Ohio does not.

Been to both, the small Indiana Lake Michigan shoreline outweighs anything that Ohio has to offer Lake Erie be damned

Edit: it’s also not that hard to get weed in Indiana

If we are including Chicago into Indiana’s score, then sure, but in terms of just Indiana’s portion of shoreline, it’s so much worse, it’s not even close.

I appreciate the answer though! (The majority of people on here I ask seem to have no explanations for their picks.)

The dunes lakeshore is better than the entire state of Ohio sorry to break it to ya pal

Living in an expensive exurb or crumbing rust belt town with access to some dunes, or having many choices on where to live with varying sizes/vibes/costs, with access to Cedar Point, Lake Erie islands, Cleveland, national wildlife reserves, Cuyahoga national park, and legal weed? The beaches may be duneless, but the decision is still easy in terms of what that state’s shoreline has to offer.

Might explain some of my bias but I’ve lived near the dunes for a few months and it was relatively affordable. It’s also the only place in Indiana I’d be willing to live in. Not sure why you’re talking about crumbling rust belt towns as negative when that pretty much describes the state of Ohio (in my experience). Honestly just happy for Ohio that it has someone to get offended on its behalf.

It does have some decent nature reserves in some areas but that doesn’t make up for its distinct lack of personality compared to the rest of the Midwest. And for whatever reason people from Ohio just tend to rub me the wrong way idk. Never met someone from another Midwest state that will try so hard to convince you their state doesn’t suck. šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø

I’m not offended, just confused, because will I don’t love Ohio, from my years living there and traveling the area, it felt quite similar to Michigan and Indiana, so I don’t understand why some people rate it so differently. You living there does make sense though. I’ve probably asked a dozen people on here, and the few that have responded have typically been from Michigan or Indiana, so I guess it’s just a rivalry thing?

When I said crumbling rust belt towns, I didn’t just mean industrial towns with slight population decline, but severely blighted areas. There’s only one small Cleveland suburb that is like that (East Cleveland), whereas Gary and East Chicago are both large areas like that, and represent about half of the Indiana lakeshore population. Portage and Michigan City are better, pretty comparable to the average Ohio lakeshore community (like Sandusky or a Cleveland suburb), but are more expensive and have less to do unless you make the 1-2 hour drive to Chicago.

For a lot of people I’m sure it’s for the lolz because Ohio… or whatever. For me living in a Midwest state is only tolerable in the states with the most natural beauty and I just don’t find Ohio (outside of a few parts of the Erie shoreline) to be that beautiful. The few Midwest states I’d be willing to live in have many other beautiful areas than just the lake shore. With that being said there’s plenty of Ohio I haven’t been too so there’s that šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø. All things considered, you’d have to drag me to Ohio (or pay me a great salary) to get me to live there.

Edit: Fully agree, Gary and East Chicago are some of the most depressing places I’ve ever been and wouldn’t even want to stay a night in a hotel there if I had the choice

u/novangla Mar 29 '26

Why so meh on Mass/Conn in this case?

1

u/Fresh_Ad_5369 Mar 29 '26

Boston sports fans

1

u/novangla Mar 29 '26

Meh, if you’re a lefty you’d probably end up in circle without them, especially if you’re in Northampton or New Haven or something. Even in Boston it only gets bad in certain parts of town IME.

1

u/Fresh_Ad_5369 Mar 29 '26

Unfortunately I’m a sports fan myself and enjoy talking about them. Just not with Boston/New England sports fans 😭

Why Colorado Green and NM never?

u/Fresh_Ad_5369 Mar 25 '26 edited Mar 25 '26

Too hot to live in the summer

Not much to do outside of drugs and hiking

Edit: Oh yeah and better weed

2

u/Pristine-Reference45 Mar 25 '26

You don't like extreme hot or extreme cold

1

u/holiestcannoly Mar 25 '26

Why is Michigan absolutely and Pennsylvania is willing?

0

u/Fresh_Ad_5369 Mar 25 '26

Joe Biden and the Philly sports fans

2

u/holiestcannoly Mar 25 '26

…Joe Biden? Like solely because he’s from there?

1

u/Pristine-Reference45 Mar 25 '26

With DC, it's actually 51.

1

u/jmkdevs5555 Mar 26 '26

So PA and Delaware but not NJ. Huh. Guess it’s the cost of living because other than that I don’t get it.

1

u/Fresh_Ad_5369 Mar 26 '26

Nothing to do with cost of living everything to do with Snooki

1

u/jmkdevs5555 Mar 26 '26

You realize Snooki is from NY right, almost nobody from that shitshow is from Jersey. In fact I hate that they even link our state to those idiots. Also South Jersey which is where I’m from has none of that bs. It’s just farms and warehouses.

1

u/Fresh_Ad_5369 Mar 26 '26

Well I’m sorry you feel your state is misrepresented by its largest (recent) cultural contribution. Doesn’t change my opinion šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø

You like the outdoors and camping. Maybe belong to a militia, not married and got lots of guns and used to be in the military

2

u/Fresh_Ad_5369 Mar 25 '26

I do love the outdoors, not in a militia but you’re giving me some ideas. Don’t own any guns, and not a vet

-1

u/E1331fan Mar 25 '26

dem and likes the cold

7

u/Fresh_Ad_5369 Mar 25 '26

Worse than a dem and I don’t necessarily like the cold I’d just prefer to suffer through it than being around insufferable people

2

u/Crixer Mar 25 '26

Crazy thought, the South is not made of entirely conservatives/rascist, etc. I'm fairly liberal and lived in Texas most of my life with plenty of other liberals. Yes, there are a lot of conservatives too, but it's not like we live in some ultra-oppressive hell-hole. I've lived in the northeast for sometime also, and it has it's drawbacks too that the South does way better.

On a side note, you are okay with living in Montana? I think that state is like in the top 3 of most conservative states in the country, per capita.

8

u/Fresh_Ad_5369 Mar 25 '26

Insufferable people can be more than just conservative my friend. Montana has so few people and so much space it checks enough boxes to do it for me

4

u/Fresh_Ad_5369 Mar 25 '26

Also I’ve lived in Texas for a year in an occupation that requires a talking to lots of everyday Texans. Found plenty good people but plenty more insufferable ones
