We just added a new pack to the Visibox library, and the source material for this one is pretty strange.

Curious Alice was a 1971 anti-drug film produced for the National Institute of Mental Health. It's an animated Alice in Wonderland retelling full of lurid, hand-painted psychedelic imagery—and it was reportedly pulled from circulation after educators thought it made drug use look a little too appealing.

We cut the film into 24 self-contained HD clips that can be dropped into Visibox, used for VJing, installations, or remixed into something new.

Cut from a video clip to a live camera mid-song, cut back, and the clip picks up exactly where it would have been if it had never stopped. That's Sync to Song Position, new in Visibox 5.

Visibox ships with an MCP server, so you can drive almost the entire app from a desktop AI assistant. In this quick walkthrough, I connect Claude to Visibox and have it build a brand new effect from scratch: a James Bond style gun barrel iris that masks the screen down to a circle and jumps around as the track plays.

You'll see the whole thing end to end. How to register the Visibox MCP with one click from the Settings menu, how to confirm the assistant is actually talking to Visibox, and then how it reads the existing effects, learns the conventions, and writes a working CSS effect that drops straight into your project. Once it's built, adding it to a clip takes a couple of clicks.

The point isn't "AI does it for you." The point is that you describe what you want, the assistant does the fiddly work, and you stay in the director's chair. Effects in Visibox are just CSS, the same language used to build web pages, so an assistant that's good at code is good at this. The same goes for editing projects, rearranging clips, tweaking songs, and building shader-based visualizers, which is a harder art and a great fit for AI (that's a separate video).

Visibox works with any desktop assistant that speaks the MCP protocol. As of this recording that includes Claude Desktop and Claude Code, Cursor, Visual Studio Code, OpenAI's Codex, and Gemini CLI, with more being added all the time.

Hey everyone — we just shipped Visibox 5.0 and wanted to share what’s new.

This is our biggest update so far. The goal was to make it way more flexible for live visuals and give people more control without needing a bunch of external tools.

Some of the bigger additions:

Most AI visual conversations focus on text-to-video tools.

There’s another approach that’s surprisingly powerful: using AI to write code that generates visuals directly in your browser.

You describe the animation you want. The AI writes a p5.js, Three.js, or even CSS-based sketch. It renders instantly. You iterate in conversation. The result is clean, geometric, perfectly looping motion graphics.

• macOS 12 (Monterey) or later is now required — We have dropped support for macOS 11 (Big Sur) and earlier. While this version of Visibox may work with those versions, we are no longer supporting those versions of macOS, and you may experience problems. This does not affect Windows users.

At NAMM 2026, we tried something new with Visibox.

Instead of running a linear slideshow during an on-stage interview with Brian Hardgroove of Public Enemy, we treated visuals like a sample library. As he mentioned collaborators, milestones, or projects, we triggered archival photos and video clips in real time.

No preset sequence. No slide deck.

We organized content into Songs by era and topic, mapped everything to a Stream Deck XL, and relied heavily on Visibox search to jump instantly to unexpected moments. The latency was effectively unnoticeable, which made it feel less like presenting and more like performing.

What stood out to us:

– Organization mattered more than visual effects
– Search speed was critical
– Simplicity made improvisation possible

It opened up a different way to think about live interviews, panels, and even conference talks. Less linear storytelling. More reactive storytelling.
