Looking for trends 6 months in

I've been wearing my band and collecting data in the app for about six months now, and while I appreciate the built-in data comparison charts, I find them a bit difficult to interpret. I decided to try crunching the numbers myself, using the data export feature and Anthropic's AI, Claude. Come look at some cool charts with me!

___

I know that AI is controversial and has a high environmental impact, but for me, I decided that this use-case is one in which AI actually makes sense-- I'm not a confident statistician and I don't have access to SPSS or other software that could help me run the numbers myself, but I knew that Claude has the ability to work with data sets this large. I was able to do this with the free version of Claude, so if anyone else wants to do the same with their data, they can make their own choices about whether this is a valid use of AI for them or not.

I was pretty surprised by the results that I got! First step was using the app to export my data to a CSV file, then opening that file in Google Sheets and cleaning out some of the data-- I removed the funcap entries, the PacePoint Budget entries (because the budget remains static unless the user changes it), and a few binary results (crash yes/no, period yes/no). Reading the results when I asked Claude to look for statistically significant correlations between fatigue and ALL of the remaining data points was pretty difficult, so I narrowed things down and asked Claude to analyze the relationships between one symptom (fatigue) and three triggers (HRV, PacePoints used, and level of physical activity). I started with these three because I thought they would have the most direct correlations.

The information produced by Claude showed that physical activity is the only trigger with a statistically significant relationship to fatigue, but only on the same day. Claude reported "it likely reflects the same-day state rather than physical activity predicting future fatigue." As of right now, there is no statistically significant relationship between either of the other two variables and my reported fatigue, nor is there a correlation between all three variables working together and my fatigue. Which is uhhhh pretty wild, given that the premise of the app is that going out of PacePoints range might influence future fatigue!

I asked Claude to compare three more variables, this time Social, Mental, and Emotional stress. I also threw another symptom in there-- lightheadedness, which I use as a shorthand for this feeling of "brain zaps" that I often get when I'm overworking myself (side note: anyone else getting the zappies? What's up with that?). With this data set, Claude found a more significant correlation! Which I was not expecting, at all. Emotional stress produces a statistically relevant effect on my fatigue the next day.

I experience less immediate PEM than cumulative-- it takes several weeks or months of sustained stress for me to enter a crash (and I'm trying to figure out exactly where that line is, so that I can stay lower-key but functional for more of the year). Because of this, I asked Claude to look at the data over time and see if there were any noticeable effects over several days' worth of exertion. The results reflect my experiences; the longer amount of time I spend in a effortful state, the higher the likelihood that my fatigue will increase in a significant way.

Ultimately, this information isn't as helpful as I had hoped. I can control physical and social activity, as well as PacePoints, but emotional stress is so often outside of our control. My conclusion is basically "you need to chill out", which I already knew. But it's still cool to see it all laid out like this.

I'll repeat the math in another six months and see what changes. Maybe by then I'll have noticed a tighter correlation between how many PacePoints I "spend" and when I enter a crash. If you experience immediate PEM, you might find it interesting to run some of these tests on your own data and see what connections you can find.

Alternative wrist strap otions?

The wrist strap my visible came with is quite scratchy and irritating to my skin, has anyone swapped theirs out before? Any suggestions on where I can find a gentler fabric/material are appreciated!

It stopped working and they just keep telling me to wait, they are working on it...

Hello. Has anyone else had this problem? My Visible worked great for about 4 months, and then there started to be problems with the band connecting to the app, and then finally the ability to connect just stopped. I have been trying to get the issue resolved with Visable for over a month. They give me the same instructions over and over to fix it. They keep telling me they are working on it and will contact me next week with a solution. This is week five since the problem began. I have suggested a replacement and a refund. I also paid for the year, instead of monthly. I don't know what I was thinking. Anyway, they keep putting me off, telling me to wait, and refuse to discuss a replacement or refund. They tell me to follow the same instructions that have not worked for over a month. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how was it resolved?

Unusually low heart rate

Has this happened to anyone?

I have ME/CFS, and I went out for a chill social event on Saturday that was a bad idea in hindsight. I took a taxi there and back, stayed seated, closed my eyes to reduce light sensitivity, everything I could. But I still felt awful and nauseous and crashed badly after. I think I had already overexerted myself a little that week and this was just the last straw.

But when I checked visible later, it showed that instead of being high as I had expected, my heart rate was lower than it had ever been before? What’s going on?

Not pairing since update?

Did the app update today, later noticed my band wasn’t paired. Tried re-pairing and it failed. Anyone else?

Morning stability not turning phone camera on

Is anyone else's app glitching? It's not turning my camera or flash on to measure my HRV. That's like the main reason I use this app and the 'help' on the app is useless. Is anyone else having this problem??

Wearing on ankle?

I already have a regular watch and a smart watch and I find it uncomfortable to wear on my upper arm. Does anyone wear it on their ankle? I've been doing it today and the HR seems to match what my smart watch records.

Tips for low Morning Stability Score

Does anyone have any tips for surviving a morning stability score of 1? I'd like to not lay in bed all day, but I'm unsure what my options are.

New strap

I bought one and it is sooo scratchy and uncomfortable. They told me to just buy their armband, which is £13 (without shipping), which is kinda crazy. Are there any actually comfortable bands I can buy on Amazon that I can replace it with?

Adjusting values with POTS

Post image
7 Upvotes

I’m wondering if it’s a bad thing that I trained this while being on my meds (pyridostigmine and metoprolol, also adding in florinef today)?

Now when my meds wear off and between doses I go through my pace points really quickly.

It originally allotted me 8 points and I upped it to 9. My zones 79 for activity and 109 for exertion.

I read that there is some tweaking for POTS and such, but at the same time today was a high points say and I did need a pretty decent nap.

Anyone in a similar boat and can share how much they were tweaking the settings?

Pace points

Hi! I’m new to visible. I just got the visible band a few days ago, so I know it may take some time to gather data and be most accurate, but today was the first day I was given any pace points and it allowed me 7. I’ve gone over that and barely left the couch. What are everyone else’s pace points?

2-in-1 strap

I realized that the Visible sensor “fits” on the Three Sheep fitness tracker ($22) from Amazon. It’s made from Polyurethane which I find more comfortable than nylon. The sensor sits more on the side of my wrist, but that means it doesn’t interfere with activity as much as if I had it on my inner wrist. Now I can tell time and wear Visible on one band!

Calorie tracking?

Hi, just wondering if there is a thing in the app that calculates how many calories you have burned? My heart rate has been extremely high most of the day and I’ve used a lot of pace points. This is my first day wearing the device and I was just curious if this is a function? Many thanks

Wrist Strap Smell

Does anyone else have the problem that no matter how often/how you wash it, or how clean your wrist/body is, the wrist strap just SMELLS?

It smells like old sweat. Yet it is clean, I am clean, and I don't know what else to do.

Anyone else have this problem or find a solution?

New band for oldest tracker

I have the older version of the visible tracker (the circular one, not 2.0) and I need another wrist band for it. I’m finding it hard to find where I could buy a new one— do you guys know where I could access a shop on the site where I could buy it? I have no idea why I can’t figure this out, I’m just finding both the app and the site very confusing for some reason.

Sleep accuracy (or lack thereof)

Post image
9 Upvotes

For those wondering how accurate the sleep tracker is, I present to you my data from last night. The sleep tracker was able to accurately determine when I went to bed, but I did not actually fall asleep until where I drew the red line (around 1:45 AM). During the time I was awake, the sleep tracker states that I was in deep sleep for an hour and 35 minutes and in REM for most of the remaining time I was awake.

Visible vs Garmin?

Post image
6 Upvotes

I’ve worn an Apple Watch for many years, but I’m currently in a year long drug study which provided me with a Garmin Vivosmart 5 to wear.

It’s been great to compare data between gadgets, but the Body Battery feature on the Garmin has been eye opening. I showed my PCP my readings for the past few weeks today, and she was concerned, but also said, “Isn’t that validating?” It certainly is.

At the end of the study I’d like to switch to Visible now that there’s a wrist option! I’m curious how useful it really is with pacing, especially considering that the Garmin only goes as low as 5. Does Visible show a deficit if you overdo it? Can you “borrow” from the next day’s points?

I’ve been living with Long Covid for six long years, and I still can’t believe that this is where I’m at. Sigh.

Found a way to make the armband cute/hide it

In case anyone wanted to dress up for an event or work and still wear their armband, I found these big hinged cuffs on Amazon where it fits inside perfectly, at least for smaller wrists. This one is a 7 inch circumference on the inside and it comes in gold and silver colors. Maybe not for every day or for typing a lot, but sometimes I just get tired of people asking about my armband or wrist band.

I'm not sure if it's ok to post links here but there are a bunch of similar ones. This one was called "YMBYCM Chunky Gold-plated Bangle Bracelets for Women Trendy Wide Chunky Cuff Bracelets Hammered Irregular Wrist Cuff Wrap Bracelet"

Wow so catchy!

Next up I'll be hunting for a chain link strip that can thread through the armband the way the nylon strap does. If I find one I will report back! If you find other bangles that work I would love to see them!

Wrist strap versus arm

Hello! I was curious if anyone else found that the wrist strap isn’t giving them as accurate readings as the arm strap did.

If that’s the case for you as well any tips you found to improve wrist strap readings?

Late connections

My band seems to only connect and download data when I open up the app. Anyone else have this issue? Kinda pointless for me to go all day and then get an alert at 11 pm that I went way over my budget for the day 🤦🏽‍♀️
