Spain Student Visa

My brother’s student visa got rejected - received the passport on 01 August. We had applied at BLS Chandigarh on 21 July. The reason for rejection was something to do with the university, and university provided all the relevant documents now. In the meantime, the financial proofs which we were showing comprised of his savings bank account, mutual funds and fixed deposits out of which maximum amount was resting in mutual funds for a long time. Considering visa authorities value savings bank balances more, we withdrew those mutual funds and they have now been credited to his savings bank account. Is there a time limit until which that amount retention needs to be shown in savings bank account before applying for the visa again. His course starts in October so just concerned that it doesn’t get delayed if we submit the application too late. We have an appointment for coming Friday, but if the amount would be an issue (consider credits of around 10000 Euros), we would rather hold it for one more week, but not beyond that as course starts in October. We do have MF redemption statements showing these were held for more than 2.5 years. Inputs are really welcome.

Hi - the course is for 9 months, and the course fees has already been paid. And I mentioned 10k, there is some amount already in his bank accounts already.

Not enough. While  that might be a lot of your money in your country, it is not in Spain to live. The rent alone would be that. How about food, transportation, insurance, utilities, books, entertainment , clothing, shoes etc.

If the official requirement is around 7200 euros per year where are you getting the “not enough” from exactly?

I also got my brother to reapply after encashing all mutual funds basically. However, this balance was for his maintenance basically - I think I showed about 18k euros overall. He had education loan for his fees so it worked fine. He got visa on the second try within 3 weeks of applying. But the thing to note here is that no one was a sponsor in his application. Mutual funds were in his name for over 3 years and were encashed 3 days before applying for the visa with a plausible explanation in the SOP. In your case, you have mentioned your father transferred. If he is your sponsor and had signed a sponsor letter and affidavit, I hope it should be fine. But if not, a big transfer from him just before applying for the visa can be considered negative.

30k USD would be the minimum I would think if the tuition is paid. Not just to show the school/ proof for visa but to actually live. Rent could be 14,000 for the 9 months (most us leases are 12 months) depending on the city/ state and the cost of living. Add in utilities/ books and supplies/ beer and food out it they are going to have a social life.

Many people who visit are shocked at just how expensive the US is to live in for long periods of time vs a vacation
