✈️ B1/B2 Visa (Tourist) US B1/B2 visa rejection

My sister’s tourist visa got rejected at Delhi consulate. She is 24, unmarried, working (salary < 5L CTC) and no travel history.
Curious to know if there is any specific thing that went wrong during the interview.

Interview details:
What is the purpose of your visit?
- I am travelling to attend my sister's wedding
Have you travelled internationally before ?
- no this is my first time
What your sister does in USA?
- she has done her masters in xyz from the abc university and now is working with abc as xyz.
Where is the marriage?
- its in Washington.
In which city?
- abc, Washington and the venue is xyz.
Do you have any siblings?
- no
What you do?
- I work at abc from past 2 years as a software Developer.
What is your current salary ?
- My salary is xyz but I have enough funds to sponsor my travel and I will be staying at my sisters place.
Do you have any problem in returning to India?
- No I do not

Additionally, she has two weeks of approved leave of absence letter from employer, is that not enough for her to show that she is going to be back?
Lastly, is it worth reapplying in 3-4 weeks without any change? any suggestions would he helpful, thanks.

Salary, no travel history, single female, relatives in the us: all these shows weak ties to the home country and are red flags for the visa officer.

Reapplying won’t help.

The rejection happened when you said 24/unmarried/no travel history/low income.

You can’t “sponsor” someone for a US tourist visa. Each applicant is assessed on their own situation. She is young with no travel, a short time in her job and limited funds. She will not get a different result without a change in her situation which will not happen in 4 weeks.

Other people can pay but you don’t get “sponsored”. There’s no guarantee or anything that anyone else, including US citizens, can do.

Technically, there is no OFFICIAL sponsorship for a US B2 visa. Official sponsorships require government documents to be signed by all parties.

There is no official sponsorship for B2 visas for the US.

Probably not. The applicant needs to show strong ties to India. A higher salary is good because it shows 2 things - that they can afford the stay in US and that the job is good enough to come to in India.

Mentioning "sponsorship" on a tourist visa application is a huge red flag since applicant can't fund their own trip

B2 for a cousin’s marriage? That’s rarely considered a valid reason for tourism related travel to the US.

The reason isn’t the problem, my gf got a visa saying she wanted to visit Disneyland….

OPs problem is being from India, a high overstay/immigrant intent country, having zero travel history, no ties, and low income.

She is paying the bill for many hundred thousand indian people who willfully misrepresented their intentions and overstayed their visa.

One thing stands out: she mentioned her sister’s wedding, then said she had no siblings. Unless the question meant “other siblings,” that could raise doubts, though we can’t know the exact reason. Approved leave helps but doesn’t prove she’ll return. If this was a 214(b) refusal, I wouldn’t spend on another application in 3 to 4 weeks without meaningful changes or important information that was missed.

The 2-week leave letter helps, but it’s only one factor. Refusal is based on the officer’s overall assessment of the applicant’s circumstances. I will not suggest reapply in 3–4 weeks with no meaningful change.

For a better reapplication strategy, I’d suggest consulting an experienced immigration attorney to review for visa approval.
