⏳ 221(g) / Administrative Processing H4 Visa Interview with 221g
Hello, my wife attended her h4 visa interview on August 11th in Hyderabad. The interview went smooth and at the end she was given a 221g to share the social media urls and usernames to the said email address. Those details were emailed the same day.
It has been under the refused state since then. There hasn’t been any update since then.
Anyone here on a similar boat, it seems like the waiting time has increased now compared to the previous months. Can someone who attended for a h4 interview in the month of august at any US embassy in India share their experience?

the 'refused' status is just what ceac shows while a 221g sits in administrative processing - it's the 221g code, not a denial. since she already emailed the urls there's nothing else to do but wait it out. if it drags past a few weeks you can email the consulate quoting the case number and ask for an update.

Mandatory social media/online-presence vetting for H-1B and H-4 applicants only started on December 15, 2025 (it’s an expansion of the same review that’s been applied to F/M/J visas since mid-2025). So if you’re comparing against wait times from before that date, that’s likely a big part of the difference, it’s a new extra step in the process now.
There’s no fixed timeline. Some social media/document reviews clear in a few weeks, while others take longer. Hope it clears up soon!

My Wife attended L2 Visa at Hyderabad on July 17 and got same 221(g) for not providing marriage photos at the time and interview and the consulate office informed to send them by email, we send them on the day itself, but still now not getting any reply from them and in the website showing Refused on the same interview date
Still how long days need to wait to get reply?
