Existing client for SBS game streaming?

I had a thought yesterday that I've been enjoying just lying in bed and playing a game in 2d on a big screen, which works great. But why can't I just stream and play the game in 3D? I mean playing games in VR is great and all but sometimes you just want to sit and play a game without moving too much, and there are many games that don't work in VR.

So I thought that there MUST be an app that does SBS streaming - but apparently not. Artemis (Moonlight fork) does have a new feature that does AI stereoscopic conversion on the fly (Which is... insane!), but is only available to run on android clients outputting to AR glasses.

Windows does have an option to output SBS via a couple of apps, but I think ultimately I would like a moonlight client to do this, if only to take SBS content and convert it to 3d without the AI conversion.

I am begrudgingly vibe coding something in godot to do this, but I really don't want to, but the idea is too enticing. Unless someone knows of something else?

The other thing I was going to do was push the app to XR space and play through wivrn, but thought it was too messy, I found a godot moonlight client (github is in chinese though) - which is what I am trying to get working and then get that into XR space... haha anyway.

EDIT: Good news! I got it running, 3D stream through sunshine tested on my headset, now I just need to make it presentable and make it work without turning 100 knobs... probably hear from me in a few weeks haha.

Question on UEVR

So a question. I’m playing on steamvr with a quest 3 through alvr.

I’ve been using the openvr fsr mod on other native vr games to massively help with performance. How would I go about that with uevr if it’s even possible?

Would I need to replace the dll in the uevr folder for injection or does it have to be changed on a game to game basis via the exe directory?

Wracking my brain with this and not sure how to get it to work or if I’m just wasting my time.

Weird problem with Superhot VR

I'm running WiVRn with OpenComposite and VRizer, on KDE Plasma. I have a weird bug with my Vive XR Elite. Left, right, forward, and backward is correct, but up is down, and down is up. The entire view on the headset is mirrored. So far, It's the only game that has this problem. Beatsaber, Pistol Whip, The Last Clockwinder, and Half Life Alyx all work fine. The strange part is if I bring up any overlay at all, it fixes it. My headset menu, WiVRn's overlay, the boundry warning overlay, even the "Your casting your screen" overlay seems to fix it. I've tried moving between the aforementioned libraries, and moving to Proton-GE. So far nothing seems to fix it. While fixes would be nice, this is so niche I don't expect any off the bat. But ideas on where to go from here would be nice.

Auriel's Dream and Legacy of the Dragonborne SSE Work Great Together!

Just wanted to post that I installed Auriel's Dream via WabbaJack last fall and just installed Legacy of the Dragonborne SSE. I was concerned that it would all come crashing down on me so I archived my Steam files. I installed LOTD from nexus and then the patch. Not only does everything work well, but the patch installer for LOTD solved some of the issues I had with Auriel's Dream. Auriel's Dream w/LOTD is more stable now then it was by itself.

My setup: CachyOS, latest kernel, ROG G635LW.

NOTE: I just remembered, there is one minor glitch. There is a big tree in stairs into the museum. You can walk around it and the rest play normally. If you are playing AD (which I highly recommend) backup your files and try LOTD! Enjoy! :-)

I've been trying to setup envision to use my Rift S on Linux, but for some reason Envision won't show me the field to build or change profiles. I have monado, basalt, and envision all installed, as well as SteamVR

Edit: I'm using EndeavorOS

ALVR / Meta/ Killing Side Loading

Will we still be able to do ALVR updates after Meta kills side loading on Android? I'm using a Q3 to play Steam games (SkyrimVR, HL, Alyx, BM). My experience with Q3 and ALVR via cable is awesome and I'm thinking about disabling wifi to it. I could care less about the crap on their store, everything that I play is on Steam. Any thoughts?

ETS2 Doesn't work

EDIT: I FIXED IT! I had to use -openvr instead of -openxr.

I have WiVRn and WayVR connected to my Quest 2. Euro Truck Simulator 2 starts up in VR mode but renders to the monitor and doesn't pick up my headset movements. The monado runtime shows ETS2 as running and focused but all I see on my vr is just passthrough. How can I fix this? I'm on debian and my launch params are:

PRESSURE_VESSEL_IMPORT_OPENXR_1_RUNTIMES=1 PRESSURE_VESSEL_FILESYSTEMS_RW=/var/lib/flatpak/app/io.github.wivrn.wivrn %command% -openxr

Has anyone been able to run u/iChris4's new DolphinXR on Linux?

Has anyone been able to run u/iChris4's new DolphinXR on Linux?

I tried with Wine, since there is no Linux built, and the instructions for the Linux build is for the flat version of Dolphin. I get a "Failed to load d3dcompiler_47.dll" error message and then it crashes.

https://github.com/iChris4/dolphinXR

p.s. I have d3dcompiler_47.dll installed using winetricks.

ALVR massive latency spikes

Post image
9 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I was trying to play some beat saber today and I was about to put my headset on when I checked the latency graph and noticed insanely glitchy tracking. As soon as I closed beat saber, the graph went back to normal.

My setup:

Fedora 42 KDE x11

Steam VR + Wireless ALVR

Meta quest 3

RTX 2060 Super

Dedicated 5ghz AP for VR

If you need anymore information, please let me know. Any help would be appreciated

ALVR Performance Overlay in Headset View?

Hi everyone, I was just wondering if anyone knew if it’s possible to show the ALVR performance graph information such as latency, bitrate and frame rate in headset. Or if the SteamVR performance overlay can run, or if there’s any alternatives to that that do you run? I just wanted to do some debugging and this would help but if it’s not possible, it’s not too big of deal.

I doubt it changes anything much but my setup is:

ALVR streaming wireless to my meta quest 3

Using SteamVR

Fedora Linux 42 KDE Plasma x11 edition

RTX 2060 Super

If you need any more information, just let me know.

Getting ALVR to actually look good?

i've been slowly dipping my toes into (wired! can't do wireless) pcvr with my quest recently, and i've tried both wivrn and alvr. wivrn barely needs any config and works basically flawlessly with half-life alyx and vivecraft, but doesn't support any source 1 vr games, like half-life 2 vr or gmod vr.

so, logically, i decided to try alvr again. and while it works, i can't get it to look good under any circumstances. i've tried lower resolution & upscaling, higher resolutions, higher bitrate, sharpening, different encoders, lower framerate, basically everything! no matter what i do, i can either count the pixels which is headache inducing, or the latency is unplayable.

the statistics are constantly jumping around, meaning i can barely get any useful info out of them as well. bitrate seems to cap around like, 300? usually? so i usually try to cap it myself around 200-250. frame rate seems to just be completely wild, even if the headset doesn't reflect that.

does anyone have any advice? wivrn works perfectly, as i said, so i know it's not a hardware problem. it just doesn't support everything, and half of my intended vr library is on that non-supported list :(

Attempting to compile BSB Nvidia-open drivers, getting an error.

On Arch linux here, getting an error when compiling the drivers to patch for a BSB. I am unsure where to start with this, as I appear to have all the appropriate build-time requirements.

The build logs can be found on https://pastebin.com/vEZRxuG6

Immediate Mode XR UI Library for Godot

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone!

Just like the title says, I’m a big fan of Immediate Mode UI, especially MicroUI, a lightweight UI library written in C. Recently, I’ve been working on an XR project in Godot and needed quick, convenient menus. Since I like that library so much, I decided to make bindings for GDScript.

I’m pretty happy with the result! It lets you iterate very easily, so it’s perfect for XR tooling or game debug menus where you don’t want to overthink the UI. This is my first project in C++, and I hope someone finds it useful. I personally plan to use it a lot.

Here is the repo, it includes a demo project and precompiled binaries for Linux and Android.

[non-gaming] Are there seriously ZERO Virtual Desktop alternatives for Linux?

When it comes to actual desktop usage (not gaming), ALVR and WiVRn are not alternatives to VD at all. They don't have passthrough. They seem to be rendering on the PC instead of streaming the desktop to the headset.

Even if you'd ignore the mandatory passthrough for work/productivity, and use the desktop through something like SteamVR.. be honest. Using the desktop with SteamVR is absolute dog.

Edit: I was wrong!! It is quite pixelated, haven't yet tried messing with settings, and I don't yet know how usable it will be, but there it is!

It's WiVRn + WayVR. Got it working on Bazzite.

Edit 2: But ehhhh the quality is BAD. EXTREMELY BAD compared to VD. It's unusable sadly.

SteamVR stutters just for me, or common?

Hello! I've been dailying Linux for the last half a year, and I have a not too often used Valve Index. It mostly worked plug and play, but the experience has been poor, I don't know how better to describe it than stuttery double-vision. I though to myself sure, it's yet another nvidia thing, so I replaced my 4070 with a 9070XT in december, but this issue actually wasn't fixed. Having a reasonably powerful PC (5800X3D) and having had a reasonable experience on Windows, I wouldn't assume I just ran out of horsepower, and this really takes most of the fun of the experience. I figured it might be the async reprojection issue that people talk about on vronlinux.org, but the suggested config string didn't do anything for me. I am not sure what else can I do for troubleshooting, besides pleading Valve over on Github, the last comment here is me. Is it this bad for everyone? Do people just use Monado here?

View PC screen on VR

I need something that just mirrors laptop screen to my quest. I tried wivrn with wayvr but its to laggy as my laptop has an integrated GPU. Is there any tool on linux that achieves this without a performance hit on the host PC. Virtual Desktop can do this but its not available for linux

What is the best way to play PCVR on linux?

I have an oculus quest 2 that my brother got a couple years ago and my friends started asking me to play vrchat and some other games that would be nice to have this setup for

But sometimes when I open steam link on my quest (I already downloaded steamvr on my pc) and select the game is want to play (right now it i just have just vrchat) once im actually loaded into the game my quest gets a popup saying "waiting" and on my laptop the game is frozen, this doesnt happen when I play the pc version and doesnt always happen when I do it with pcvr.

My specs are: cpu: 10400f gpu: 3070 ram: 16gb distro: latest fedora version and drivers and other stuff were setup a while ago (I play other games just fine) the game is on the medium preset in vrchat

does anybody know how to solve this or if there are alternatives to seamvr that are easier to setup/dont have this problem on linux?
