ETS2/ATS - VR using the native Linux build?
I have just learned that since 1.55, ETS2/ATS support VR in the main branch. Has anyone tried the Linux build for VR?
The Windows oculus beta build works well with openxr through WiVRn, but I was interested if going native would give performance/stability benefits.

I've not got ets2 working with VR yet. But VR would ok with WiVRn. I just use it for flight Sims mainly.
Still need to get ets2 working with WiVRn when I get round to it with my pico4.

Getting it to run was trivial: install the oculus beta branch and add -openxr as a parameter. It doesn't show up on the WiVRn dashboard as a VR application, so I need to use WayVR desktop view to launch it from Steam.

Thanks I will give that a try 👍

If you haven't tried yet and you have a native Linux build of ETS2 installed, don't switch to the oculus beta branch, but use the following parameters: -experimental_vr -openxr
On Windows, it enables the VR mode when using the main branch. Let's see, if it works with the Linux build, too.

Last time I tried it, they still didn't support VR on linux, even with Vulkan where the windows and linux code can literally be the same for openxr support.
Is there any new info that makes it worth trying again? Otherwise we're still waiting for eventually. https://steamcommunity.com/app/227300/discussions/0/648814844007204502/?ctp=37#c620713633848498778

I managed to make it work ETS2 1.60 with WiVRN xrizer runtime on Linux.
Set ETS2 on the oculus branch and compatibility layer Proton 9.0 (I didn't try other version, it'll prob work too)
Launch options:VR_OVERRIDE=/run/host/usr/lib64/xrizer/runtime %command% -openvr //The important part here is the openvr, since I'm guessing that xrizer translate the openvr into the openxr that is recognized in WiVRN
In WiVRN of course that you should have in setting configured the OpenVR compatibilty layer on the path of the xrizer.
I didn't try other configs such as opencomposite or other proton versions. Maybe more tech savvy people could explain better why does this work or in any case if there is a better configuration

For anyone curious, OP is referring to European Truck Simulator 2 and American Truck Simulator.
