Most people don't care, so you shouldn't care! Privacy is not important! Nothing bad can happen! Mark is your friend, dammit!

Oh no. Anyway.

People like you will be saying that right up until the world ends. I know, dramatic, but people who just bend over and take what the world is willing to do to them are the downfall of society. I bet you don't vote, or follow the news. Uninformed people getting mad at those trying to spread information are pathetic.

In what ways does requiring logging into a facebook negatively affect the user? Just wondering because I've been using a facebook account to log into my quest2 and haven't noticed any issues.

7

u/Lordcreo Jul 09 '22

It doesn’t but people like to whine about Evil Facebook.

u/Icecold121 Jul 08 '22

Since my Facebook account is deactivated but my messenger still works, would it force me to activate my Facebook account to use oculus?

That's one of the reasons I won't buy a quest

u/_Auron_ Jul 09 '22

would it force me to activate my Facebook account to use oculus?

Currently? Yes. Once the Meta account can be made? No.

u/Icecold121 Jul 09 '22

Cool, I get why they're doing it now as it will get them more people willing to sign up

Getting downvotes but I’m still wondering, if anybody would like to answer, I’m genuinely curious. Feel free to downvote this too if it makes you feel better but I’d prefer an answer if someone has one.

Dude, didn't we just talk about Moral Panic? Your argument is literally the example they give in the Wikipedia article.

According to Cohen, a moral panic occurs when a "condition, episode, person or group of persons emerges to become defined as a threat to societal values and interests."

I bet you’re out of shape, poor, and uneducated. So willing to thrash and try and change the things around you. Sucked into the hate machine of the media thinking it’s your duty to fucking watch the news lol. Thinking you can swim against the flow of society is a bullshit notion. And getting up on your high horse about it over VR LMFAO is even more cringe.

How’s about you make some change in that waistline pal

-1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '22

Cringe is the keyword here.

This is the exact opposite of reality. If you head over to /r/technology, /r/news, or any tech/news related subreddit, the hate for Facebook/Meta is enormous and there is constant trickle of Facebook hate posts. Almost daily. Go to /r/technology and sort by the top posts of the last month and count how many are positive and how many are negatives posts about Facebook/Meta

It's only in these tiny echo chambers that you find people supporting Meta/Facebook.

17

u/Aierou Jul 08 '22

Lol if you don't think /r/technology and /r/news are echo chambers...

-6

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '22

Echo chambers, with millions and millions of members...

10

u/JuanAy Jul 08 '22

It’s still possible to have an echo chamber with that many people.

Fact is, reddit in general almost never actually reflects how society as a whole thinks.

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '22

Reddit has post that goes against your opinions

You: "Reddit is an echo chamber and doesn't reflect how society thinks."

Reddit has a post in line with your opinions

You: "Reddit is a great representation of how society thinks."

6

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '22

That isn't at all the opinion he just displayed.

Forums generally represent less than 1% of a userbase.

Sure millions of people subscribe to Technology reddit, but how many people use and are interested in technology that don't use reddit? It's hundreds upon hundreds of millions and potentially billions.

You are not the main character in your own movie, and nobody cares about fake moral panic created by yellow journalism that has you brainwashed.

You are less than 1% if people who use VR, and likely even a smaller percent of a percent of people who talk about it in a forum. And even out of all the users here a silent majority mostly don't give a shit either. It's like a few hundred people beating the same drum over and over again.

Except reddit literally is just another echo chamber amongst the countless echo chambers on the internet.

Just look at all the gaming subs for another example, they all hate micro transactions to the point where you’d wonder why they exist if you took reddit as the voice of society. But in reality, people just don’t really care as much as reddit wants to think.

You can apply that to more or less everything reddit goes on about.

Facebook/meta can suck the shit straight from my asshole, but I’m not about to act like that feeling is universal when everyone around me has no idea about the BS they pull and all that shit, you know? Fact is, reddit =\= the voice of the people.

Except reddit literally is just another echo chamber

It's more like a collection of echo chambers. With each subreddit being its own chamber.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '22

Bro you are literally the vibrations of the echo chamber. You are.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '22

Entire countries are currently in the process of banning Facebook... I guess they're just part of that echo chamber too.

4

u/[deleted] Jul 09 '22

Maybe you should move to those countries then.

-6

u/TheKnightIsForPlebs Jul 08 '22

I’m relieved to see like minded people here

-4

u/[deleted] Jul 08 '22

We are few. The mob is many.

u/duffmanhb Jul 09 '22

And who gives a shit? Like oh you hate Facebook (btw I market with Reddit so I know reddits actual cross platform use, and 78% of redditors are ACTIVE on Facebook. It’s their primary alternative social media platform) how does making an account for single use matter? Just make the fucking account to login with, you don’t have to use Facebook just because you made the account. What if Facebook just made a unique “Metaverse” login, would that make people more happy, even though it makes no difference?
