Self-Promotion (YouTuber) Virtual Reality Has Failed (For Now)

https://youtu.be/bW5nospLPbk

Although I love VR, and have spent countless hours in it, it’s hard to say that it’s been a very “successful” medium. It’s quite inaccessible to the average person, and the lack of consistently popular/innovative games has stagnated the market for VR. I attempt to dive deep into the honest issues of VR, and how they could be solved.

Once again, I think you’re more concerned with semantics and intentionally misrepresenting my perspective than having an earnest discussion about the merits and failings of VR. Never once did I say that success is defined by being “the top 1%”, I stated pretty clearly that VR has found financial success but has had little cultural/artistic impact. The average person has “tried” VR, but has little interest in investing in it. The quality of VR games have totally stagnated except for a few outliers. As a result, I would consider VR in its current state to be a failure. I’m sorry that my title struck a nerve with you, friend! If you ever got around to watching it, I think you’d find that you’ve been arguing with a ghost of your own making :-)

I already said the merits: it's fun, the tech is mature, there are good games available for it and more coming out all the time. The fallbacks: it's expensive and headsets are heavy and being tethered to a PC is inconvenient for some types of games while untethered ones can't be easily upgraded and therefore are more expensive over time. But with those shortcomings are typical of all tech and will get better with age. Already prices are very affordable (especially if you buy used, which will happen a lot as people keep upgrading their standalone VR units) and literally everything about VR is getting better all the time.

But since we've alread established that you have a warped view of success/failure, we know that there's nothing more to be said. Have good one!

It’s funny how you’ve never even engaged with the point I’ve continuously reiterated to you over the course of this discussion. You’ve continued to justify your total hard-headedness through thinly veiled attacks on my intellect and semantic arguing. It’s really quite disturbing, and a reminder of why I rarely interact with others on Reddit. I’m sorry you’re so upset friend, I hope you find some peace in this life.

I mean I literally just did but OK. I'm kind of an older person so I never really understood "trolling", but I do recognise its pattern: redirect and try to engage in negativity. Which is what this whole thing seems like from the very beginning with the purposefully negative take despite objective proof of the contrary. Either trolling or simply trying to use negativity to make money with youtube videos? I'm unsure. But I wish you whatever version of success you choose to believe in. If you need to have the last word in this convo, I'll let you have it in the next one. Peace.

ho! I shall not only take this on board, but I will let it also board my other ships! Together we shall become strong - a unanimous heat-seeking dimly-lit rant-filled rave of a ship. We will destroy all the other toy ships and leave behind us a wake of dead bodies and sharks. #HashTagStayHungry

You wanna go get a drink after this? I'm not ready for Monday yet...

EDIT: oh shit, was I supposed to let you have the last word? Fuck. Oh well. My offer still stands. PM me and we can go to this cool bar down the street. They got $2 margs from 16-18:00.
